I came home today and found a Bubamara menu on my doorstep. On the back they have a "Organic Menu" section. Anyone tried it yet? It's mostly really simple pastas and cheese (Gouda) pizzas.

I believe it's the same hyperkinetic guy who used to run Satko's Kitchen ... haven't tried his pizza, but the food at Satko's was excellent. If it's the same guy, I had a long talk with him about his hometown, Banja Luka. Can anyone confirm if it's the same guy?

I have had the pizza -well not for at least a year, but it was great. My friends who live in the delivery area get it 2-3 times a month because of the unique topping choices - I think they have hearts of palm. I would at least give it a try if it is close/delivers.

Sorry, should of been clearer. I've had the non-organic pizza before. It's one of my favorite pizza places next to Gigio's. Was just wondering about the organic part since it was news to me. Pricey also. So it must really be organic...

Definitely the same guy; back in the early aughts I knew him via my then-girlfriend, who worked for his wife. I miss the rabbit tenderloin in caramel sauce.

AndewC - What Gigio's are you referring to?

I've enjoyed Bubamara's, but if it's second to somewhere else, I want to know.

I'm guessing that it's the Gigio's at 1001 Davis in Evanston. I remember it as fantastic thin crust available either whole or by the slice. There always seemed to be a thin layer of grease on top but if you find that offputting you can always blot it . Bubamara is quite nice too - in addition to their pizza I like their calzones very much. I have yet to try the pastas or anything off the organic menu, but their enormous variety of both 'normal' and higher-end unusual toppings will keep me placing delivery orders for some time (plus, Gigio's doesn't deliver to Chicago).

Which is somehow related to the Gigio's on North Broadway.

I haven't been back to the Evanston location in awhile, but the Broadway location can turn out a decent product, for sure.

I'm looking forward to trying the Uptown location now that I'm back down in the city -- the Evanston outlet was my go-to source for pizza during my year there. But I have to say, I ordered from the Evanston location last weekend once everything was packed up, and it was one of the worst pizzas I've had. Anywhere ever. Flat-out awful. Soggy crust, hardly any topping (I'd ordered sausage & green pepper), rubbery cheese so thick I couldn't see or taste any tomato sauce. I threw most of it away and, were I still up there, they'd be on Double Super Secret Probation. I hope maybe their A crew just had a night off -- at no point was that pizza handled by anyone who knew anything about making pizza. Caveat emptor and, given their long run of successes, I hope to hear encouragingly contradictory notes about them soon.
