Too bad! I checked with Sparky, and he'd rather go on Monday - I think you're right, elakin, I wouldn't want to wait until Wednesday either. :( I was looking forward to meeting before the event (in the meantime, thanks for the tips on grocery-store bacon.)

Kenny, meet at the pickup point at noon Monday and then head out for lunch?

I think so, but I am not able to commit yet. Tying up a few work-related loose ends and should be able to say yes or no tomorrow.

I feel like an alliance is formiong against me a la whatever that reality show is where alliances form against people. Honestly, work stuff is pretty unpredictable for me this month, so it's best not to count on me for Monday.

    LTHers,

Come on out to tomorrow night and support a good cause. My entry is in the oven, and I'm afraid I didn't make nearly enough. Oh well...LTHers get first dibs.

Sparky skipped out of school today and rebuffed his playdate-seeking cronies by announcing "I have to go home and start my mise-en-place." I love my kid.

If it were a cuteness contest, cute as you both are, we'd cream you.

Can anyone provide a little more info on what will be happening throughout the night? I've never been in that Goose Island Brewery and I'm not sure what to expect once 7pm rolls around.

I'm really looking forward to this and the day is passing very slowly...

Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to come to this event, but I am rooting for team LTH. Hopefully, we are looking at a 1st, 2nd, 3rd place sweep!

Don't know if any of the members made these, but my top favorites were:

    1. No. 17 with the 3-4 different kinds of pork in it.
    2. Don't remember the number, but it had shredded ham in it.
    3. No. 18 (I think) with the braised oxtailed meat.
    4. 312 Goose Island Beer.

And I lucked out and found a free parking stop about 1/2 block away from Clark.

That was a great event. I'd love to hear the winners as my wife and I left at 9pm. My wife's three votes went to #8 while I gave one to #8 and two to #3 - I think that was the number...it was the one with the smoked cheeses near the back by the corner. After putting the two tickets in that cup, I realized that I neglected the entry with edamame which actually would have been my favorite had it not been for the edamame (though I love them otherwise). :)

    It was indeed a blast.

    First Place:
version with braised oxtail, by Chef James Gottwald from Rockit. This was also my personal favorite.

    Second Place:
Amalia Obermeier Smith’s (of Kuma’s Corner fame) creamy and tasty dish with morels, cayenne, and more.

    Third Place:
I’d like to thank the Academy, my wife, my mother, and all the support I received from the wonderful people at LTHForum.

    Which one was yours?

I gave two of my tickets to the first place winner...that was a lovely flavorful mac and cheese. No. 8 was interesting too...had a hint of nutmeg in it. Do you know if the recipes will be published anywhere? I would love that oxtail one.

    qofu2,

Mine was #7, "Mac alla Vicenza". It had a gorgonzola-truffle cream sauce and stravecchio-truffle-crumb topping. It did also have a good hit of nutmeg.

They had us all submit recipes, so I hope they get published somewhere too. I'm with you on wanting the oxtail recipe.

P.S. sorry we didn't get a chance to meet.

Congrats on the win...I had two servings of yours and one of No. 8. The nutmeg in both of those gave the mac and cheese an interesting flavor. Yours won out over No. 8 only because I love gorgonzola :D

If somehow because you were in the contest and have some stroke AND manage to get that oxtail recipe, please please please post it. That would be a meal in itself....with a nice side of cornbread.

Thanks, especially, to elakin for posting the original thread that got us involved - Sparky has recovered from his small disappointment at not getting a trophy, and is pretty excited about the whole thing. It was a lot of fun - I've never seen such a crush over Mac and Cheese in my life!

Sorry to have missed all the LTHers who attended (except Kenny and elakin, who were good company,) I was busy kid-wrangling for a lot of it...

I was going to say the opposite...there was a free ticket to the event yesterday to be had and I could not find a single taker. I asked about 8-10 people and they all said that they did not like mac and cheese enough to make the trip.

Right - but those who were there were pretty motivated! We were trapped in our booth for quite a while, and Sparky dealt with the crowds by hiding under a table near the stage. :D I only got to taste about 10 or so entries (and I have to say I liked ours the best -#18- poo on you, Kenny! )
