Party of 30

I have a friend who is hosting a bachelorette party in Chicago and was looking for recommendations for some where that will take reservations for a party of 30. They will be around the House of Blues so anything in the area would be great.

I think most of the girls involved are going to be in their twenties and very trendy. Think designer jeans and martini's. Their budget is pretty open, but I would think they are looking for a place that is around $20 a plate (this is just my best guess, and I'm sure they'd be open to suggestions in other price points).

I have been to a number of holiday parties at Sullivans Steak House.

I think they have 3 different room sizes on the second floor, as well as a bar and cigar room.

Might be a little more expensive, but the privacy is kinda nice

Is Sullivan's any good? I've never been before. I went to their website and it looks like they are owned by the same people who own Lone Star, which I did't care for (granted I've only been once).

What is their ambience like? Is it more of a young hip trendy place, or an good 'ol boys steakhouse?

GOB Steakhouse, with less than spetcacular steaks. I went to an event there a couple of months ago and was underwhelmed by the food. The atmosphere called for cigar chomping.

Hate to say it, but maybe Maggianos?

I don't think they are set at being right next to the house of blues (I just mentioned it since they will be over there later in the evening). I know that area is over commercialized so if anyone has suggestions outside the area, say river north, lincoln park, etc.

I think Cafe Iberico handles a lot of large parties. It's a tapas restaurant on LaSalle just south of Chicago.

Vinci (Italian) on Halsted also has some nice private rooms and I think I've been in one with a party of about 30.

Oh, and I think De Cero on W. Randolph has a room as well. Hipstery, but decent, yet not authentic Mexican food. Pretty good margaritas.

Is there anywhere that would be comparable to say Opera for ambience in the area that could handle 30 people.

Red Light, a sister restaurant to Opera located on the Randolph Restaurant Row, has a private room that can accommodate up to 70 or so. I've never been, but all the KDK restaurants tend to be very... designed.

South Water Kitchen is right there. It meets your price for entrees and has a full bar. It's in the Hotel Monaco across the river on Wacker and Wabash. Also, Mambo Grill. Not martini's, per se, but they do have mojitos by the pitcher, as well as other Latin drinks.

Designed....nice way to put it. I think this group is going to be looking for very trendy, funky places. Somewhere nice but not quiet and stuffy which is why I thought of Opera. I know it isn't everyone's type of place, but I've eaten at Opera a couple of times and I enjoyed it and think it is great for the hip 20 something crowd. I wasn't overly thrilled with the drinks (more focus put into alcohol content than flavor) or the desserts which I found boring, but I loved my entree as well as did everyone I dined with. I ordered from the vegan menu and both times ordered a spicy peanut noodle dish (I'm not sure of the name, and they don't have the veggie menu on the website). I really enjoyed this dish, I'm a sucker for peanuts and spice, and this dish packed in quite a bit of heat. Others I was with orded the Beef and Broccoli, which is Filet Mignon and broccoli, which was raved about, and the Firecracker Chicken. All three of us agreed that we would have to return just to be able to order these dishes again.

Thanks for suggesting Red Light, that may end up being perfect. When I went to Opera with a friend she mentioned that it was very similar to Red Light. I passed the suggestion along to them, but if anyone has any other suggestions please share.

Tizi melloul looks great too. I think the price will be fine.

Sushisamba Rio will fit the bill for the trendy, hip contingent...although it's not a place I would nortmally recommend due to overpriced not too special food. It's quite the scene, though. Also, how about Thyme on Halsted & Grand. There was a recent outing there that impressed quite a few LTHers with the quality of the food.

I think Red Light is a great idea. The thread that I'm linking to contains some other suggestions for a big group.

Also, how about Thyme on Halsted & Grand. There was a recent outing there that impressed quite a few LTHers with the quality of the food.

My only question would be, when it's too cold to sit outside, does Thyme really have enough room? (You don't say when this event will be.) The patio is a wonderful space, and spacious, and as noted I for one thought the food was first rate, but the restaurant proper was not nearly as large.

I think they are going to go with Red Light.

The $20 price was rough entree price, not including apps, drinks, booze, etc.

If Red Light is in the same ball park as Opera it will be fine
