OK, the tip on trying Semiramis last week worked out so well, that I'm back for more (I know, this makes me the laziest LTHer out there. Oh, well.)

Considering a movie at Landmark Century this eve. That strip of Clark just above Diversey (as well as Diversey itself) is, to me, an ever changing morass of independent storefronts and chains, almost none of which I have actually experienced---with the exception of "Buca di Culo" - once. (Apologies to whomever originated that insult.)

What's around there of any interest?

I am a fan of the burgers at Duke of Perth. Nice beer and scotch selection also.

First thing that comes to mind near there:
    the venerable
    La Creperie
    2845 N. Clark St.

too bad Grandma's Receipts and Vittles aren't still around in that block.

I used to have a monthly meeting right around there and I'd be on my own for dinner. I tried most everything around there, and these were my favorites:

    1) Pars Cove is a little Persian place just below street level on Diversey. I usually ordered their vegetarian plate (baba ganouj was a highlight) and they would occassionaly have interesting specials.

    Pars Cove
    435 W Diversey
    (773) 549-1515

    2) Frances' Deli has some good club sandwiches and great potato pancakes and potato salad. I am very partial to their grilled chicken, avocado, and bacon club with a side of potato salad.

    Frances Deli
    2552 N Clark St
    (773) 248-4580

    3) Torajiro Sushi isn't bad at all. I wouldn't recommend it as a destination, but if you sit at the bar and eat the freshest stuff, you'll have a good meal.

    Torajiro Sushi
    432 W Diversey
    (773) 477-5000

I'm not a huge fan of a few of the places that people really like around there such as La Creperie and Half Shell, but they are really popular.

    La Creperie
    2845 N Clark
    (773) 528-9050

    Half Shell
    676 W Diversey
    (773) 549-1773

    Best,
    Michael / EC

    Terrific.

I always meant to try Pars Cove, and I had forgotten that I actually used to frequent Duke of Perth, back when I was in shows at the Ivanhoe (before it was a Binny's).

Speaking of the Landmark Century area, anyone know when Eatzi's is finally going to open? I was a big fan of them in Atlanta.

I believe they're scheduled to open sometime at the end of this month.

Aloha Grill serves some pretty good, though not earth shattering, Hawaiian Food south on Clark near Wrightwood.

Select Cuts, that steakhouse cited by the Trib for its burgers, proved to be a winner for me and my Customary Dining Companion prior to seeing "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" at the Century. It's on Halsted, just south of Diversey, if I remember correctly. The burger was good as it was touted, the service was gracious and swift, the beer was cold - and it's well within walking distance of the Ravenswood/Evanston Express el. Good burger + fine, thought provoking film = exceedingly nice evening.

I like the grilled calamari at Cousins Restaurant (2833 N. Broadway), but I haven't tried their other dishes.

Aladdin's on Diversey is great too! Its inexpensive and has wonderful Mediterranean food with a little bit of a twist...
Love the fruit & nut salad as an appetizer, the dolmah, and the Jaffar's Pitzah is my fave!
Of course Weiner Circle isn't too far from the theatre either!
