My customary dining companion and I will be seeing the new Batman movie early Sunday evening, and we are trying to come up with a reasonably chowish dinner place in the vicinity of the River East theatre, which is at E. Illinois and Columbus. Volare is too dressy, Blackie's is *meh*, Frontera is closed....any suggestions? Dinnertime will most likely be at about 7 or so. We will not be driving, so parking is not an issue, thank heavens.

It's not exactly right in the neighborhood, but not too far away is Silver Spoon.

I should have added that while my CDC is generally open to eating anything that doesn't involve finned fish, beets, or Brussels sprouts, he is oddly averse to Thai food. I confess that I am not nuts about Japanese food, myself, so that combo at Silver Spoon probably won't go over too big. But thank you anyway!

Some people might recommend Sayat Nova on Ohio just east of Michigan Ave. for Armenian food. I've only eaten there once for lunch, but I had a C- meal there. Others seem to enjoy it though.

Check out this thread for details on Sayat Nova and other Mag Mile suggestions.

You can't go wrong with Fox and Obel's cafe. (Plus it's right across the street). It may seem unexciting dining in the back of an upscale grocery - but the quality of the ingredients is superior, and there is something for everyone.

Hey, Fox & Obel may just do the job - I just called, and they are open til 8 on Sunday. Excellent idea. I'll run it by Mr. No Fish.

    Thanks!

    What about Bandera on Michigan?

But Stevez, now I have my heart set on an F&O lobster club sammich!

I'd pobably choose that over Bandere, too.

I have not been to that PJ Clarke's, but I really love the burger at the one I've been to. There's a PJ Clark at Columbus and I think Illinois.

The Palm is running a special of a 5 lb lobster, with two salads and two sides for l think 80 bucks. I'm expecting big check in the mail (any day now I've been told...) and when it comes, I'm celebrating there with the Condiment Queen.

Speaking of burgers, is not the Rosebud--Trib-top-burger--somewhere east? See if Phil Vettel is right.

We like Clarke's OK, but I think we've ended up there pretty much every time we've seen a movie at River East. I like those mini-burgers. Mmmm....burgers....

Now, on the other hand, we are on a perpetual Burger Quest. I will throw Rosebud at Mr. No Fish and see what he says (though I admit that am pretty solidly Pro-Obel at present).

    Thanks! 8)

Last week, they also had a soft shell crab sandwich on special that was quite nice.

I go to C&D Gyro's pretty religiously for lunch. Gyro or Gyro Melt with a side of a fried chicken leg, budweiser and lotto ticket.

One of my favorite lunches. Great place, good people.

I like this place a lot, even though the food isn't mind blowing by any means. I must say, I've never ordered this precise combination, but I think it's a stellar idea.

    Coco Pazzo Cafe
    636 N. St. Clair St.

Nice place, they'll have the doors open to the street if the weather's nice. Tasty Italian food [not rave-worthy, but good] at reasonable prices [for the area].

Have you tried the Gyro Melt yet? I really, really like it, even tho I know its just melted american cheese on gyro meat - the chef uses a lot of butter on the bread so it comes out like a crispy, homeade grilled cheese (with gyro meat obviously). Tasty
