I just have to share this experience with others so people can get their money's worth in Chinatown (even though food is cheap as it is!)
One of my fave places in Chinatown is Seven Wives restaurant....however there is something to be aware of - they have 2 menus, one for their Chinese or asian patrons and one for non-asians. The sad thing is, the same food on both menus are priced differently, where the non-asian menu is priced much higher.
When I first went to Seven Wives, I was with my chinese boyfriend at the time. We got a steal on our meal....definitely take advantage of any of the "Over Rice" dishes, which range from $3.95 - $4.95 for a big pryex pie place of rice with your preferred entree on top. Definitely enough for 2 people with some leftovers for later.
When I went to Seven Wives again, only with nonasian friends, I was handed a different menu, where the over rice dishes were not even listed and the pricing of the food was much higher. I asked our waitress for the "other menu" and she looked at me in such a way as if I asked for something obscene. She did give me the "asian menu" and all was good.
If you happen to go to Seven Wives, be sure to ask for the red booklet menu. I wouldn't want you to get stuck ordering from a white plastic menu that denies you some awesome and cheap food, well worth every penny, even if it's less than $5.
