was written onto the specials board 2 Saturday ago? now 1 of our favorite. Unfortunately, I have no pictures of TAC's rendition, only a poor generic version off thaitable.com:

TAC's ver consists of sprouts, lightly fried mussels, large slices of crispy fried (tapioca flour?) noodles, etc. Light, varied crunchiness, slightly sweet & spicy with a nary a smell from the mussels. Almost perfect for a muggy summer day. Searching thru Eric's translation's yields "hawy thawt", also avail at Sticky Rice & Spoon Thai. Hope this stays on the specials board for a long time to come.

I just had the Hoy Tod tonight and it was fantastic. Until I figure out how to put pictures here, you can see it here (along with moo ping and seafood lard nar):

It's been up for a couple weeks now. I had it when it first went on the board. I enjoyed it a lot but I recommend it as an item to share rather than as a stand alone entre.

It might be appropriate to say that the dish contains "noodles" as opposed to noodles. If I'm not mistaken, they're rather crepe-like, made from a batter and cooking in a pan as opposed to being made from a dough. It's definitely one of the Thai items that, in my mind, matches perfectly with a hot night and a couple cold drinks.

Hoy Tod is a beautiful dish - the finest that I have had a TAC so far. In fact, other than steamed mussels, I can't think of a mussel dish that I have enjoyed so much. The noodles are magnificant, quite unlike other noodles that I have tasted.

Good for summer, but I'd eagerly return for seconds at Xmas.

Just had the Hoy Tod for the first time on Saturday -- and sorry, Tony, but this is my new TAC favorite -- taking honors over the catfish. Never had mussels prepared in such a superb way; ranks up there with the Mussels in Black Bean sauce that Joy Yee's offers.

LTH is truly a great public service!

Thanks for all the posts about hoy tod; it's a dish I had years ago and have been wanting to try again. TAC is now high on my list of places to go to.

Long ago (1980's?) wife #1 and I saw Hoy Tod on the menu at Bangkok Inn on north Lincoln Avenue (might have had a different name then) and decided to try it instead of the usual.

It was superb and we made a point of returning several times for more. Then Hoy Tod disappeared from the menu (I think there was an ownership change) never to be seen again, and we've been looking for it since.
Where there’s smoke, there may be salmon.

we were desperate over the weekend. so we ended up having Sticky Rice's hawy thawt (per translation)... meh. not the same. dry egg + dry mussel = dry omelette with uninspiring sauce. that and the ordinarily long wait @ Sticky Rice is just too big of a turnoff...
