Does anyone know where I can find the best strawberry shortcake made w/sponge cakes not biscuits? Ideally, we'd like to go somewhere for this dessert after dinner tomorrow night. (Yes I procrastinated w/this post. )

I just saw Big Bar (Hyatt Regency) featured on Food Network's Top 5 Summertreats. I admit I have never heard of this place, and I don't have any experience with the Food Network's rec's.......anybody else?

Really???? is it a year round offering?

Had a decent one at Sweet Tomatoes, a 3 unit salad and soup concept but it is made with biscuits. I don't believe they offer it anymore. It was part of a 2 week Strawberry promo that featured salads that contained strawberries.

I very curious what made a hotel lobby bar a Top 5 Pick? What did they say about it?

    My review of Big Bar
If you want to buy some high priced drinks and hang out with visiting conventioneers wearing their badges in the lobby of a large chain hotel, the Hyatt Regency's Big Bar is the place for you. Don't forget the overpriced pre-fab appetisers and deserts to round out the experience.

Some changes in plans last night resulted in moving dinner out to the burbs....so I might be going the homemade shortcake route in the near future instead.

Thanks for the tip on Portillo's strawberry shortcake. We considered it last time we were there a few weeks ago, but we were too full  BTW Portillo's lemon poppyseed muffin is pretty good - it comes w/the chopped salad. Of the 3 locations (2 in Arl Hts & 1 in Schaumburg) by me, I noticed that they only serve that at the two Arl Hts locations though.

As for Al Roker's Top 5, I would guess it was the strawberries being in season for the summer and the size that qualified Big Bar's dessert for the "Summer Sensations."
