    Hi All -

I'm looking for a sit down lunch place not too far from Midway, around the vincinity of Archer/Pulaski. The few places that come to mind are Bobak and Szalas, but was wondering what other places might be worth a visit.

I vaguely recall a mention of a Middle Eastern place on Kedzie, and I suspect there may be some good Mexican in the area, but am looking for a bit more direction.

    Am also considering Chuck's.

    Thanks!

Shirley — Plenty of good eating around Midway. The Middle Eastern place you’re thinking of might be Steve’s Shish Kabab. Excellent food and quiet, dark atmosphere. Almost next door is a branch of the ever-expanding La Quebrada. Speaking of ever-expanding Mexican places, there’s a Las Islas Marias on Pulaski. Tough to beat for Mexican seafood. I still haven’t been to Szalas but it sounds like a good bet for Polish. If you want a Polish buffet, I’d skip Bobak and go to Tatra Inn instead. Or for pretty good Lithuanian/Polish food try Mabenka. Chuck’s would be a good choice too but farther from Archer & Pulaski. Most of these places have been discussed on this board, so you should be able to get more information.

The 63rd Street branch of La Quebrada is probably the weakest link in the chain. For a REAL solid Mexican meal, the La Quebrada on 51st and California isn't much further, and is only a 10-minute walk from the Kedzie Orange Line stop.

La Quebrada (the best location in the city, IMO)

That's interesting. I have never tried a La Quebrada besides the Cicero location, and I've always wondered how they stack up.

    Thanks!

Amata and I enjoyed our one visit to Oscar's which is at 56th and Kedzie. If I'm in that neck of the woods again, I'd be happy to go back and would be interested in hearing of others' experiences there. Here's the write-up (with pictures) from our visit earlier this spring:
