A friend of mine has to work late tonight, so I thought I'd surprise him by bringing him dinner. He really likes pad thai, but I'm not sure which Thai restaurants in the downtown area have a good version of it.

I need to find a place that is somewhere not too far off the path from Chicago/Fairbanks to Adams/Wacker.

I like Dao's when I need quick, convenient Thai food, but the one time I ordered their pad thai, it was pretty bad (they even gave lemon slices instead of lime, which I found strange...).

Anyone know if Silver Spoon makes a decent pad thai? It'd be great if they did, so I could also pick up an order of banana blosoom salad and Thai fried chicken, if they're still taking that special request.

Aroma on Randolph has pretty good pad thai.

    Janet,

Yes, Silver Spoon makes quite a good pad Thai.

My recommendation, if you wish a particular item, is to call earlier in the day, or even the day before, speak to Chai or Vanna and make your request. This, of course, is unnecessary if the item is on the menu, but as I don't have a Silver Spoon menu available I'm not sure about Banana Blossom Salad or Thai Fried Chicken.

    Enjoy,
    Gary

    Thanks, Gary.

I actually did end up going to Silver Spoon last night for the food. I called in my order ahead of time and asked if I could order a Banana Blossom Salad and the Thai Fried Chicken, and they had no problems obliging.

I don't know how the pad thai turned out, as I just dropped it off at my friend's office, but the salad and chicken I took home were quite tasty. I did notice, though, that the salad I got this time didn't have the little crunchy bits that I usually see when I have it in the restaurant. Can't remember what it was...fried onion maybe?

Siam Rice, located on Wells, just north of Washington, in the Loop makes an awesome pad thai, especially with tofu!

They are open till 8 pm, extremely friendly & the crab rangoon ("golden crab") is some of the best I've had --- and, I know my crab rangoon!

They don't have a website, the contact info is below:

    117 N Wells
    (312) 606-9999

Usually, I go with other dishes from thai places, but their pad thai is really a knockout.

    Enjoy!
