My uncle, who is involved with an international group of students at UW Madison, is bringing a group of 10 to Devon tomorrow for lunch before they trek out to see the Hindu Temple in Lemont. He's asking for good lunch suggestions (and anything else). About half the group is vegetarian--an all veg place is fine but not essential. He'd like it to be a place where he can make reservations. Thanks.

Mysore Woodlands is a big enough place to be able to accomodate such a group, and is all veg too.

Yeah, for reliable, enough veg. choices, and nice atmosphere, I'd say Mysore or Indian Garden. Although IG is not vegetarian I like several of their vegetarian dishes a lot.

This is probably too late for your trip, but for folks going the temple in Lemont, both Mysore Woodlands & Indian Garden have branches near the temple on Cass at 60 th Street - turn north off the Stevenson at the Cass exit. My feeling is that both these are better in terms of service & food than Devon (but that may be because I know the managers, so they always look after me & the groups I bring - they are very accomodating of my business & family groups when I am entertaining).

Its also possibly to eat at the temple - they have basic (but pretty decent) veg cafe there.

Mysore is the place for big/good/vegetarian. I still think Viceroy is excellent for classic North Indian or Mughal food - at least as good as Tiffin, and far less expensive.

Keep in mind that if some of you vegetarians are vegan, anything on the skillet will have been cooked with clarified butter. You'll have to stick with steamed and deep fried items like iddli or vaddai.

Regarding Mysore, I can't emphasize strongly enough to ask for the tomato chutney. All batter items are served with coconut chutney and sambar, but the tomato chutney is out of this world.
