Amidst the summery temps and the crack of the bat from the south side Sox, last night, AB, another member of the board, and I, threw back a few Miller Light bombers and reveled in an early spring game.
Not content to settle for some Ricobenes roast nastiness or Connie's cardboard with tomato sauce, we held out for dinner.
When the Sox walked off the field leading the American League Central with a 10-4 record, there was only one late night option in our mind....
The namesake, LTH!
A quick semi drunken red line hop and by 11 pm, we were settled in among the flourescent card board hand written signs beckoning us to order the live dungeness.
After a quick huddle, we settled on Crispy Chicken, Salt and Pepper Shrimps, and with a quick glance to the wall menu, Pepper beef ribs.
The board has been buzzing lately about LTH not holding up to being good. Having had a handful of solid visits between us, we weren't particularly worried. Frankly last night was my best visit yet.
It could have been the glow of the win, or the boozy warmth of a few beers, but when the Crispy Chicken or as I like to call it Peking Chicken showed up, it was chow time.
We requested Gary's chili oil, and with a few sprinkles of lemon, a bit of the salt spice mixture, and a dab of chili oil, we were on our way to crispy chix bliss.
We followed that up with the pepper beef ribs. Basically mongolian beef, a brown sauce with a bit of garlic and succulent tender short ribs cross cut on mini bones. This is a new favorite.
Finally, we sucked down some skin-on salt and pepper shrimps with the familiar spicy jalapeno and sweet onion zing.
Afterwards, as I rode home in a taxi across the Chi river, the sweet waft of chocolate from the Blommers factory cloyed in my nostrils. How lucky to live in this city of chow, with miles to go and only a few hours of sleep to my working day.
