Last Saturday, in an attempt to get underway with my show of thanks to CrazyC and Pauly for all of their help with my website, I took them to the new location of Oysy, which is on Grand Avenue. Pictured below are some of the highlights of our meal.

Some of the items which are not pictured included: "grilled chilean sea bass with garlic black bean sauce," "stir-fried octopus with homemade hot sauce," and sake kawa temaki.

Oysy has applied for, but not yet received, their liquor license, so CracyC and I rendezvoused beforehand at Binny's on Grand, so that we might find suitable libations to accompany our meal. As CrazyC was characteristically way ahead of schedule she had already decided upon the libations, and I was simply left to pay for them. ;)

With our cooked preparations we drank a bottle of Kikusakari Kurashizuku Junmai Ginjo, Usu-Nigori, a slightly effervescent unfiltered sake which did wonders with the residual food oils on the palate. And, with our sushi and sashimi preparations we drank a bottle of Mantensei Junmai Ginjo (Suwa Breweri). While the latter was pleasantly sweet and dry, making it a decent match for the raw fish, it was perhaps not the best choice to follow behind the first.

I thought that our meal was really quite good. Admittedly, though, the sushi and sashimi preparations managed to elicit much more enthusiasm from me than did the cooked preparations. But, with so many menu offerings remaining unsampled I imagine that I have quite a bit to look forward to.

    Regards,
    Erik M.

Disclosure: Pauly's finacée, Leena, is the Manager at Oysy on Grand. And, while we did not receive special preparations or discounted pricing, we did receive exceptional care and attention from several members of the waitstaff.

Being a fan of the S. Michigan Oysy location, I was excited to try the new location on Grand. I had my opportunity last week, when I had a late lunch with a friend and my 1 year old. I was very impressed with the service, and the food was excellent. We started with the tempura soft shell crab, which was served with two dipping sauces (although I only tried one, which was somewhat citrusy, and fairly good). As it was a light meal, we only had a few pieces of salmon, a few of the white tuna (which was phenomenal), assorted vegetarian rolls, and a spicy tuna roll (it was spiced with a mayo-based sauce, which I'm not terribly enthusiastic about, but it was very good). We ended our meal with some green tea and mango mochi, and left feeling quite full and quite happy.

Other than the very good food, I'm happy for two reasons: 1. It's wonderful to have a good sushi spot in that location, as the joint on the top floor of the North Bridge shopping complex just wasn't doing it for me; 2. Not only were they able to accomodate my child (highchairs available, willing to prepare a few of the rolls slightly differently for him), they seemed genuinely happy so to do. I'm a little sad because when we went, the place was empty - I'm hoping they start to get some more traffic and stay in business for a long time.
