BURGERS AND BREW: CELEBRATING WISCONSIN’S LOCAL FLAVORS

May 30th 4-7PM at the Capital Brewery Bier Garten in Middleton

Nothing says summer in Wisconsin like fresh grilled burgers and cold beer. REAP, a local food non-profit organization, puts a new twist on this popular tradition by linking some of Dane County’s most popular chefs with our region’s talented farmers and brewers. Enjoy the wonderful flavors of Wisconsin as chefs and brewers serve up mouth-watering sandwiches and handcrafted brew at “Burgers and Brew: The Taste is Local,” taking place Saturday, May 30st from 4-7pm at Capital Brewery Bier Garten in Middleton. This celebration combines new and old Wisconsin traditions and raises money for REAP Food Group's Buy Fresh Buy Local program.

“Wisconsin farmers produce high-quality meats, cheeses and veggies so it’s time these products take center stage on our grills. Bring together our region’s farmers with award- winning local brewers, introduce them to eaters who understand great food - and we’ve got a fun event!” says Rachel Armstrong, event planner and coordinator for REAP Food Group’s Buy Fresh Buy Local program. BFBL helps Southern Wisconsin restaurants find locally grown food that meets their needs. The program also works to help farmers connect to the restaurant market and helps consumers connect to the abundance of local food in Southern Wisconsin.

Delicious burgers will be specially prepared with locally raised meat or vegetables. Event guests will wash the tasty treats down with locally brewed beers selected to uniquely compliment each chef's creation. A variety of burgers, veggie burgers, beers, and soda will ensure variety and fun for all tastes. “We are really excited to be a part of this event- not only will it be fun, we’ll show people how important delicious local food and local beers are to Wisconsin,” says Monika Greenheck, event coordinator for Capital Brewery.

Last year’s first annual event was a terrific success with 600 guests and sold-out vendors, and Burgers and Brew 2009 is on track to be even better. Guests purchase $25 tickets redeemable for 3 burger and beer mini meals, selected from ten restaurants and brewery teams. Taste the talent of chefs from The Weary Traveler, Bluephies, Brasserie V, Willy Street Co-op, Lombardino’s, Ian’s Pizza, L’Etoile, Sardine, The Old Fashioned and Metcalfe’s Sentry. And sample beer from top-notch brewers Furthermore Beer, Capital Brewery, Tyranena Brewing Company, Sand Creek Brewing Company, Lakefront Brewery, New Glarus Brewing, Central Waters Brewing, Sprecher Brewery, Great Dane Brewery and Lake Louie Brewing. Live music ensures that this event is the perfect kick off to your summer.

Burgers and Brew is generously supported by The Onion’s Decider Madison, Metcalfe’s Sentry, The Sustainable Times, and Capital Brewery. Tickets are available at Willy Street Co-op and at the REAP Food Group website. Learn more at: www.reapfoodgroup.org.

This sounds like great fun. Wisconsin microbreweries are producing some amazing beer, much of which isn't available outside of the state.

I wish I didn't already have plans for this Saturday or I'd be driving north for a visit to the Madison farmer's market and this event.

Thanks so much for posting these regional events, Cathy.

    Hi,

You're welcome. I almost didn't, because I thought it may not be of interest. Your comments help me post these on days I doubt it's worth the effort.

    Regards,
