What better way to start of the lovely month of June than the monthly LTH dessert exchange? (I was going to add swoon and spoon in there somewhere but caught myself in time  )

    The basics:
    Monday June 1, 2009
    6:30 pm
at Hellodali's West Rogers Park abode

The basic format for the dessert exchange:
    1) I’ll serve a light dinner (currently I'm thinking of a cucumber yogurt soup and a couscous salad but that could change between now and June 1)
    2) Bring one recipe size of any dessert – no doubling or tripling of recipes needed! If there’s one thing we know well by now, it's that one recipe size allows for lots of leftovers.
    3) Bring a container to transport your dessert assortment home.
    4) Come hungry. You probably won’t want to eat another dessert afterwards for another month.

Let's keep the participants to 10. Please RSVP here and let me know what you'll bring when you know I'll add you to the list below:

    Participants:
hellodali (host) - Jane and Michael Stern's Cola Cake with Broiled Peanut Butter frosting
eli - Chocolate Mousse, Salted Caramel Ganache, Peanut and Banana Caramel Tart
    foodie1 - mini cinni buns
    aschie30 - rhubarb roulade
Pie Lady - chocolate mint cheesecake
Cinny's Mom - hidden berry cream cheese torte
    jygach -Key Lime Cake or
    Blueberry Lime Curd Tart
    Cookie Monster
    justjoan - Chocolate Cream Pie

Count me in. These dessert exchanges are one of the highlights of the month for me. I'll figure out what to bring closer to the date.

Can you please add me to the list? Thanks! I'll be out of town for a wedding that weekend...so I will have to pick something that will be quick and easy to put together!

Please count me in! I'm really looking forward to these dessert exchanges going into the summer as fresh, local fruit comes into season.

Me too! Is there a theme this time? My dessert is also TBD, either way. :)

Oh, boy. Please put me down as tentative. The weekend before is going to be a crazy one. Just on Sunday I'm running an early race and then doing the Global Stuffed Treats ride. I may be out of commission by that Monday. If I do make it to the exchange, I'll bring a chocolate avocado pie.

can i get on the wait list for this? i dont want to sound like sour grapes, but it seems like the exact same people manage to fill all the slots immediately. couldnt you use some sort of lottery so everyone (people who didnt manage to read the email the day it comes out) could get a crack at coming? justjoan

Well, joan, like everything on LTH, it's first come, first-served. This has been posted since May 5th and the last slot was just taken yesterday (May 12th). Someone usually cancels, so there's a good chance you might get in.

A word to the wise, the next month's dessert exchange is posted within a day of the last dessert exchange, so if you want to get in on it, look for it then.

Actually we do have room for one more as - unless I counted wrong - there are only nine people signed up. With Joan it makes 10 so everyone from here on out would be wait listed. And Wendy's advice is good - if you want to make the dessert exchanges - do check the board and sign up the next day after the last one.

You counted wrong. You omitted foodie1 from your list.

I'll give up my spot since I'm closer to being a "no" than tentative. I do think, though, that the exchange should remain first-come, first-serve. The host-organizer of each exchange already has a lot to do--posting, tracking attendance, usually making appetizers (or in foodie1's case, a full-out banquet) in addition to making her/his dessert contribution. A lottery seems like it would be unnecessary additional work.

happy_stomach: its kind of you to offer, but i'm happy to stay first on the wait list.(unless you have some other reason for backing out?). if you decide you cant make it, hopefully, you 'll give me a few hours notice so i can whip up a dessert! thanks, jj

    jj--

I'm happy to give up my spot, regardless of whether or not there's a waitlist. I'm way oversubscribed these days and want/need to be doing less. You should experience an exchange anyway. You'll see why they fill up so fast with the same people. It's a truly outstanding event. :)

In case I missed something above, is there a theme to this event? That and the weather will help me decide what to make. Right now I'm starving so everything is a possibility!

    I don't think there's a theme this time. It's freestyle.

I'm afraid that the identity of my contribution will be a last minute call based upon the availability/non-availability of summer fruit. I may make strawberry shortcake or pie, or rhubarb something . . . or neither. :)

    Stay tuned . . .

Blimey, they had nothing but asparagus, rhubarb, and plants.
I was so disappointed, but boy, you LTHers don't lie about those fresh doughnuts. Wow!
According to one farmer's market site, peaches don't come in til June, and some berries too (wish I could remember where I saw this).

    Ladies and Eli:

After lots of back and forth and a visit to the market, here's what for dinner on Monday. Note that it's very, very light. Let me know if you need more substance but I figure we want plenty of room for sweet treats.

Prairie Heritage Farms baby lettuces with fresh parsley, two mints, cucumbers and lemon vinaigrette

Asparagus from - shoot I blanked on the farm - they were towards the west near Clark St. - baked with browned butter and parmigiano reggiano

Pane Siciliano (semolina and sesame bread) that I am baking myself
