    agreed,

I just wanted to gauge interest, and then set a date. Plenty of time to work out specifics.

I would like to try to kepp it to just smoked meats, to keep with the BBQ theme. But plenty of need for sides, appetizers, etc.

I'm in for 2. I know we'll bring at least one veggie side for my veghead partner who is not vegan and will eat fish. We make a lot of Mexican, Indian and Asian dishes so don't be afraid, it will be something tasty. We're also happy to contribute anything else, we'll see whats needed when the time comes closer.

tick tock.... tick tock... I cant wait...

May is right around the corner, so I had to fire up the smoker last night.

I also had some deer as company in my back yard(there were 10-12, and this was all I could fit in the frame.. I havent seen the turkeys in a while though.)

    Image

Any new attendees(all are welcome, and I have plenty of room for up to 50 folks to enjoy some bbq, meeting fellow LTHR's, and perhaps drinking a few cold ones)..

Ill update the list, and want to set what folks may be bringing about 30 days before the 9th of May.

Wow, clearly you didn't get our "Chicago" snow, I was walking through snowflakes last night to Marie's Pizza. Please put me down +1. I don't have a smoker, but I'm happy to do side dishes, desserts or appetizers plus appropriate beverages. I have a vague memory of what it's like to stand around outside and eat. Should we bring chairs?

Thank you for the generous invitation. Would love to join you.
Sides and dessert would be my contribution.
However, if someone is willing to offer some grill space I may rethink.

I should only have one rack (of two) running that day so you are welcome to use the available space.

all that bbq talk on the SBR thread got me even more anxious for this event.

Only approx. 47 days away, & we still have room for more folks with smokers, or about 15 more people to come out, and have some fun, exchange tips, and share some bbq, and fellow LTH'r company.

Once we are 30 days out we can seriously start to post what everyone may be bringing and what may be needed.

I am going to resume some test runs on my smoker the next few weekends to make sure I am on my game.

    sounds great,

I am taking this weekend off of cooking opting for Hot Dougs, & crawfish, and perhaps another GNR tomorrow, and a steak and a lobster for dinner @ Holy Mackerel on Sunday as part of my weekend b-day celebration(my birthday isnt a one day event, but takes a weekend to be done correctly :D ).

The next few weekends will be devoted to smoking, wood choice(hickory, mesquite, apple, or maybe green tea leaves), and deciding on a rub.

this will be a day long event, starting when you need to get your meat on the smoker and ending whenever. For those not smoking meat I would guess meat would start coming off the respective smokers between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. if I was to guess.

we'd be glad to have you.

Panther, I wish I did live a little closer to you, I would have been glad to share. When I get my smoker going I like to make the most of it, and tend to over cook amounts. It usually just ends up back in my freezer until another day.

All right, with a little more than a month to go before this event is held I figure it is about time to specifics regarding what folks are bringing, what is needed, etc..

The "Marseilles In May" event will be held at my house on Saturday May 9th, and will be an all day event. Meaning as early as folks want to show up to get their smokers, and meat going is ok and lasting until whenever. I hope to have the smoked meat items to come off out of the smokers around 2 p.m, but that time is not written in stone. Other items like starters could be served while the smoked items are cooking, and sides served with the bbq items.

I was going to get a keg, but I dont know if others will appreciate my low brow, good ol' boy taste for the Millers, and the Bud's of the world.

I want to keep it to 45 people max, and will probably have the cut off date as April 25th. The count currently stands at around 42 people (+/-) When the list is firm I will PM attendees with my address, and other contact info.

    What is needed:
-chairs(I have about 10, but if you can bring your own that is great)

-tables, I have one or two buffet tables, and could get more, if anyone has any to bring that would be great. They will come in handy for prep as well as to put the food on for service

-your drink of choice.(if a preson decides this is their contribution to the potluck that works as well).

-a side dish, appetizer, desert, main & a grill, or a smoker depending on what you may be cooking(also remember your lump charcoal or wood, or any cooking utencils you may need). reply on the thread with what you are planning to bring, I doubt there will be an overlap, but it will be good to see where any holes in the lineup may be. (My kitchen will be available for some prep, refrigeration, or oven time, but space will be limited).

    -your appetitie

I want this to be a fun, informal event where bbq enthusiasts can come out, and enjoy some different smoked meats, sides, etc, as well as enjoy each others company. It will be a good chance to learn something about bbq from different people, who may use different rubs, woods, and overall techniques to produce their end product.

I will be smoking some babyback ribs, and if I can get to one of the local sausage shops before the event some kilbasa, alligator sausage, or links.

I will bring a large sturdy table,
a big (I think it's 2 gallons) cooler of sweet iced tea
    some interesting homemade slaw
and maybe some guac depending on the avacado situation
and 3 hungry boys (hubby +twins)

I will bring dessert for sure and maybe some baked beans and whatever else inspires me (or you need.) We'll also bring chairs. The only table I could bring is one of those low, Ravinia type tables. If you think that might be a good place for some people to sit around, I'll bring it.
