    Hi,

Are sticking exclusively to the intersection of Kedzie/Lawrence, then maybe a block north and several blocks south, then a little east and west?

    Regards,

My thought was to stay within walking distance of Lawrence and Kedzie. That way, people without cars can take the el to Kedzie and WIlson and we can meet there and walk. I think Marie's would be doable. It's about a mile but it would give us time to digest.

This is my hood, so I'd definitely try to be there. I'd suggest throwing some Philipino food in the mix, and perhaps some NY-style foldable pizza with a Baltic slant. If it's morning, a stop for donuts and Mexican pastries ought to be on the list too.

    Definitely interested.
Noon Kebab and Semi-Ramis are delicious.
Lets not put too many places in because than we cannot sample too many things due to over stuffing.
Word of caution Noon-kebab has extremely slow service, it will take about 15 before you get a menu and 30 min before you get food. This would be good place to have a discussion.

Sounds like a fun idea: there's a new place in the ever-rotating commercial shop on the tracks across from Noon-o-Kebab called "Antojitos" that is like a store-front elote cart. Probably worth a stop.

Also, there are a few new bakeries - one just north of Lawrence, one at Kedzie & Cullom.

I'd skip noon-o: the other places are better and faster.

How about a pupusa at cuscatecla at Albany & Lawrence.

If we're heading to Santa Rita, there's the cuban place and the vietnamese bakery.

At the other end, we could conclude with filipino karaoke! I had a great time once at Hiromi's.

I've never done a 'thon and this was the first neighborhood this forum helped clue me into (and that I now cannot live without). I'm definitely interested.

If D'Candela is being considered, Con Sabor Cubano and Nhu Lan are a similar distance down Al Aurens way.

Edit: Oops, looks like Seth just beat me to it!

I can't believe I forgot these (I must eat two #4's with extra jalapenos from Nhu lan each week).
    Thanks Seth and Gastro Gnome.

So, rough itinerary (feel free to editorialize)

Meet at El Trigal late morning for donuts.
    3107 W Montrose

    Con Sabor Cubano
    Cuban sanwiches, breakfast, batidos,etc
    2739 W. Lawrence

    Nhu Lan
Vietnamese sandwiches (Bahn Mi), limited spring rolls, desserts
    2612 W. Lawrence

    Zeina Bakery (FKA Al Khayam)--groceries/bakery
    4738 N. Kedzie

    Salam
    Shawerma, humus, 25 cent falafal,
    4626 N. Kedzie

    Nazareth sweets
    Bakery
    4638 N. Kedzie

    Pupuseria y Restaurante Cuscatleco
    Pupusas, tamales, empanadas de leche
    3125 W. Lawrence Ave.

    Great seas
    Chicken wings
    3254 W. Lawrence

Is that too many? It may be. But El trigal, Al Khayam and Nazareth are places that people can buy stuff to take with them (though El Trigal's donuts are much better warm). Personally, I would probably eliminate Con Sabor Cubano next (I really like it but there are lots of good places for a Cuban). I'm going to walk around and check hours, then I'll set a date.

    Thaiobsessed,

All we need is a day and time. For me, Saturday March 28, April 11, and April 18 would all work. Earlier gets into the possibility of snow. (I'm out of town on April 4, but that shouldn't stop you if that is the best date). Choose a date and we can open our calendars.

April 12 is Easter, the day before will be slightly hectic, maybe a week after would be better and warmer.

Doing this without a falafel from Salam seems almost sacrilegious. Also, there's so much good counter-style, quick and delicious food in the area, that I'd suggest staying away from sit-down places including Semiramis. That way, we can try more stuff.

My feeling is that one sit-down place is nice as a final spot - after we are all tired and need something cool (or warm) to drink.

Agreed. I'd vote for Salam over semiramis. It wouldn't be weird at all to stop by for just a few dishes at Salam. Of course, if there are 20 of us, we might want to let them know we're coming. But, they should have no problem handling a smaller group.

    Great idea, Becca!

I'll toss out another plug to add M-3 to the list. Philipino food would add some nice diversity to the list of stops, and almost everything is served from a steam table, so it's fast as could be and you can order as much or as little as you want..

As someone who has planned two a-thons, I'd suggest limiting to no more than 5-6 places all together and agree with only 1-2 sit down places - preferebaly just 1. Thaiobsessed, PM me if you want any planning tips or want copies of the rough iteneraries I drew up for the two Devon-a-thons.

As Cookie Monster mentioned April 12 is Easter, April 19 is Eastern Orthodox Easter. Passover I believe starts on April 8. Any of these might affect people's availability and or dietary restrictions.

I have limited AThon planning, but lots of other event planning. At some point, you just have to pick a date that works for you and hope that others are able to join in. There's always something that might be a conflict for someone.

That said, I look forward to seeing the final date and hope it works for me!
