I've heard fantastic things about Bar DeVille, and I think it's about time for another LTH happy hour. So...let's convene. Post here if you can make it.

    Tuesday, March 10th, 6pm

    Bar DeVille
    701 N Damen
    Chicago IL 60611

Edited to correct my clumsiness with DeVille capitalization...

I heard great things about this place at the Great Seas dinner, I so disappointed I'm going to be in NY and will miss it. We'll just have to do another. :(

Count me in. I may even be inspired to wash it down with fried pickles at Violet Hour up the street (or Honey-1).

    Giving this a bump . . .

Barring any unforeseen work emergencies ( ), I would love to attend. There are many drinks I've yet to try at DeVille . . .

    Thanks for organizing.

I wish I could go, but I have a prior commitment.

I tried Deville for the first time last Sunday and quite enjoyed sitting at the bar and talking cocktails with Nathan and Brad. If you feel like splurging, buy yourself a shot of the rare 13 year Murray McDavid Guyana Rum.

May I bring a slightly un-inebriated Moet chandon with me to join the group?

I may try that, but my plan is first to walk right in and order a Hard Sell. dansch has gotten me very excited about malört cocktails!

Of course. I hope to start out that way...slightly un-inebriated, that is.

    Hi all,

I stopped into Bar DeVille tonight to say hi and to give them a heads-up about our happy hour tomorrow. Apparently, a little birdie already told Brad we were coming--I barely had to say anything before he said, "LTH?" Anyway, I *really* like this place, thrilled I can walk there, can't wait 'til tomorrow. I plan to be there at 6pm, but I'll be coming by public transit from Evanston so I may be a few minutes late. I'll be there though!

Just one PSA: It's cash only, so come prepared.

More folks are still welcome to join us. The more, the merrier!

I hate these, and have been visited by the spectre of one, so I'm squeezed on both ends and will likely not make it. I'll toast you in spirit and find y'all at the next one.

Excellent drinks and terrific company were just what I needed on a day of getting bad news about an NEH grant. I loved Bar de Ville and see many evenings there in my future. But the best thing about tonight is we somehow talked Gary into trying Malort just one more time in the Hard Sell cocktail (which I like - it's very grapefruity). Thanks Sharon for organizing and thanks all who were there for your great company.

Gary also tried a half-shot of Malort straight and enjoyed it so much he pondered whether the "formula" had been changed. I think Gary's a Malort convert . . .

Thanks, happy_stomach, for organizing last night. It was a lot of fun.

It sounds like you had a great time. Of course, if you had gone to GNR Winner Violet Hour instead, you would have been partying with Bono.

After a rocking DJ session at Metro, the band headed over to the Violet Hour for an exclusive record-industry event hosted by Interscope Records. Also served fantastic highlights from the Violet Hour menu.

I should also mention that the Tamale Guy made his way into Bar DeVille when some of us were still there (the guy with the red cooler). The cheese/jalapeno tamales were delicious. [I see that happy_stomach announced his arrival on Twitter's tamale tracker.]

Man sounds like a good time...I got stuck at work and didn't make it home in time. Hopefully I can make the next one.

    Aschie,

I pride myself on keeping a (mostly) open mind about such things and did not feel the citrus dominant Hard Sell was letting the pure evil essence of malort come through, so I tried a wee bit straight up. While its true that malort did not, at least this time, trigger my regurg reflex, malort is not a quaff I would casually imbibe while relaxing in front of the tube with a bowl of cheese curds and chapulines.

Make no mistake, Malort is evil, beware.

Thanks to Happy_S for organizing, great choice of bars, DeVille is a terrific place to have a drink. I did not get to DeVille until 7:30ish, had a previous engagement, but everyone was still there and in full swing of fun, frolicking and story telling.

    Enjoy,
    Gary
