TAC Quick -- Wednesday, February 11 at 7:00 p.m.

Any interest in joining RAB and me for dinner at TAC Quick next Wednesday? With so many recent positive posts about the restaurant, I'm hoping that I'm not the only one itching to go. We've not been before and would welcome the company and ordering power.

Please let me know if you'd like to join us by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, the 9th, so that I can make a reservation (they're closed Tuesdays). In case we have a large response, I'll cap it at ten folks for now. [eta: I called the restaurant and the most they can do is 14.]

I believe the dinner start time is 7:00 on Wednesday, February 11. The five o'clock deadline was to RSVP to REB on Monday.

This is perfect. It's two days before I leave for a 10-day yoga training where I won't be eating much more than twigs and drinking coconut water (OK, I may get to eat l little more than that, but I'm certain there won't be any pork neck where I'm going...or any other animal parts for that mattter.) I'll be there!

Two questions: is TAC Quick still BYO? If I can figure out if I have anything appropriate on my wine rack (suggestions?), I'll bring a bottle. Or suggest a type of beer and I"ll try to pick up something. Also, are we just ordering off the menu or are we preordering some things?

Hi! I'm looking forward to tomorrow, too.

I think they're still BYO. Perhaps someone who's been recently can confirm. We're planning on bringing some beer. Probably some ales from the Two Brothers sampler, because that's what's in the house. A nice pilsner or lager wouldn't work just fine, too. If you'd prefer wine, I'd suggest a gewurztraminer or a pretty dry riesling. I think that whites are better for Thai food than reds, but I'm a beer gal when it comes to Thai food. I have no doubt, though, that if you have a bottle of wine, you'll have plenty of folks to help you with it.

I haven't been to TAC Quick. So, I was hoping to arrive and leave it in the hands of the experts as to what we should order (stevez has suggested calling ahead tomorrow about Roti Kaeng Karii Neau, as they often run out early - - and I'll do so). If anyone has a difference of opinion, please let me know.

And, finally, it would be great if everyone can bring cash to ease payment. Given that it's BYO, I anticipate splitting the bill 14 ways.

Also, I tried my darndest, despite some pronunciation troubles, to reserve three orders of the Roti Kaeng Karii Neau. I hope I got it right, Steve!

Roti was divine. The karee it accompanied looked like your average beef stew but was anything but. The sauce had a deep character, a slow and lingering complexity of flavor.

But for me, I think that roti pretty much makes anything good. Naan, paratha - I'd hike a mile for great griddled breads.

As I mentioned to RAB, I think Sunday brunches should toss the crepes and start a tableside roti bar.

But that was just the first course...

The karee and roti were a fabulous start to a delicious meal. With a group that size, we had great ordering power and once the food started coming, it didn't stop. New highlights for me (after the karee) were the crispy en choy and the thai fried chicken. I'd had the duck curry before and it did not disappoint last night. I also liked the dish that had the preserved egg. Thanks to REB and RAB for organizing this dinner. As always, it was great to see and meet LTHers!

Thanks to RAB and REB for organizing the dinner last night. This was my first trip to TAC and I thought the food was great. (The company was, of course, impeccable.) My favorite dishes were the thai fried chicken, crispy en choy and the dish with the preserved egg. I can't wait to return!
