    The boring stuff:
    http://traxtavern.com/info.html
833 A Deerfield Rd. (Locate behind Walgreens on the corner of Deerfield & Waukegan)

I meet with a group of former coworkers monthly, and this month was at Trax in Deerfield.

The good stuff: lots of sandwiches on the menu, including some novel items for the low-carbers out there: a "signature" burger which is prepared vesuvio style, sauteed in olive oil, wine and garlic, and roasted potatoes... but it's not a sandwich on a bun, so I skipped it, looking for food I can pick up. They also have a pomodoro burger, also bunless, with grilled tomatoes, basil, and buffalo mozzarella.

What I had was pulled pork, which was thankfully not slathered in sauce, and had good flavor and texture -- not the best I've ever had by any means, but quite serviceable for lunch. Companions had a chicken parma sandwich and a BLT, both of which were ample and no complaints were heard.

Another nice touch: each sandwich has a choice of sides: baked sweet potato, mashed, fries, slaw, veggie of the day or... Tater Tots! For a buck extra, onion rings, for $2 you can get a side salad. But tater tots it was for me. Quite a large mound of crispy little tots, perfection.

Sandwiches are a little pricey, running $7.50 for the BLT to $10.95 for steak or tuna. Entrees start at $9.95 (chicken fingers) to $20.95 for rib/chicken combo. They list Door County perch for their fish and chips, which may be the thing that draws me back.

Service was friendly and attentive, but not a very full house for lunch, so it was likely not a stress test, but then I never want to be waited on during stress test time.

Thanks for sharing your report on Trax....I've got a coupon for 'buy one, get one free' entree from the Entertainment coupon book. Now I'm more inclined to check it out. Thanks! :)

Trax is very near my house but I've only been there once -- about a year ago -- because my initial foray was fairly lousy. Perhaps I should give it another shot now. Who knows?...maybe they were having an "off" day when I was there.

Of the 3 restaurants in that clump, Trax is the only original one left; Sage Hen Cafe (a Perkins derivative) and Hi Ricky's are both long gone.

    Thanks, for the recon.

Hi Ricky was repaced by Filippo's, which also has a location on Clyborn in Chicago.
Sage Hen was replaced by a diner called Rhapsody which is just OK

Yeah...been there done that. Filippo's was one of the worst resto. experiences I've ever had. Based on my meal there, I'm genuinely stunned that they have an original location which is still in business.

Rhapsody is a fairly typical coffee shop-type place. From what I understand (Deerfield Review), it just changed hands.

I was just at Rhapsody Cafe on Tues for my dept lunch. A gentleman, that I presume to be the manager or owner, stopped by and told us that the menu was just 3 days old. The menu seems pretty similar to the previous one, but less selection and leaned more toward the breakfast fare. I had the veggie omelet which I must say did not live up to its previous version.

As for Trax, I have only been there once about a year ago, also for a dept lunch. It was completely dead, and the chef never showed up for his shift or something like that. I don't know who ended up cooking our meals, but I think we waited about 40 min for our food. Even then, one of my co-worker's burger was definitely raw - not rare - raw. We complained and asked for a discount on the bill for the long wait. They kindly obliged and gave us 20% off, which I was only expecting 10%. That experience pretty much scared me from returning even though they offer my company a discount. My new dept goes there quite frequently and raves about their food.

I went to Trax about 3 years ago. I wasn't that impressed with it. Has the ownership changed and do they still offer the stacked food items?
