I picked up a flyer on the new Gregor Mendel exhibit at the Field Museum and it lists a series of adult lectures that might be of interest to LTHers.
On Sat. Nov. 11, Michael Pollan will discuss his book
The Botany of Desire: a Plant's Eye View of the World. This book explores 4 plants and their relationship with people. Two of them are food plants--the apple and the potato--and thus of potential interest. The other two are tulips and marijuana. The lecture is at 2 pm and tickets are $20, $18 for members. Pollan's new book has been discussed here.
Then on Sat. Feb. 17, Peter Raven, President of the Missouri Botanic Garden, will present a lecture titled: "Transgenic Plants and the Natural World: Curse or Blessing?" As many transgenic plants are developed for food production, I thought this would be of interest as well. The leture is at 1 pm and costs $16, with discounts for educators and students.

FWIW, the exhibition is sponsored by Monsanto
