OK, I admit to getting a kick out of the wine pairing with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches featured in yesterday's Tribune food section. So I'm thinking it might be fun to host a tasting matching wines with another basic humble food like PB & J. Maybe for example:

Tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches
    Chips and French Onion Dip
    Pigs in a blanket
    Macaroni and cheese
    Other ideas?

Before I throw out a date, any interest? Or am I the only one intrigued by the possibilities?

Also, I live only two blocks from the Devon Indian Pakistani restaurant strip so there would be many possibilities for a post tasting dinner. Let me know what you think.

My brother participated in a Superbowl Wine Tasting where the "discovery" was pairing buffalo wings with champagne. Unfortunately, his paper has taken down the full article that is linked to from the above page. I'll ask him if he recalls anything else, but I remember him being "blown away" by the wings/champagne pairing.

Since we can no longer dip my bread in olive oil with the same innocence as before, I'm sure Mr. X and I would be game for pairing wines with unusual things. Besides, we're always happy for things close to home. I'll follow this thread for more details and will try to come up with some suggestions.

I can say with some authority that an '87 Margaux may show some promise with Sloppy Mac (though you must use FRENCH's fried onions).

    Hellodali,

What is your version of pigs in a blanket?

    Thanks,

Oh, I've never actually made them so I don't have a version. I was just throwing it out as an option for a humble food/wine pairing tasting. But there doens't seem to be a whole lot of interest in this. Maybe I'll try to come up with another tasting adventure....

    Sounds to me like there's interest ... are you looking for 4 - 5 people, or 80 - 100?
