Meet us at Millenium for a sandwich supper.

    Construct the perfect sandwich.

Bring an extra one to share. PIGMON will bring the wine.

    Date: Thursday 8/17
    Time: 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
    Park location: Jay Pritzker Pavilion

Featuring: Dawkins and New Horizons, featuring Zim Ngqawana and Louis Moholo, plus the Mandingo Griot Society

Chicago and Durban’s mutual influence of urban rhythms are apparent in the bands of both Chicago saxophonist Ernest Dawkins and South African reedist Zim Ngqawana. The two met in Chicago in 1999 and Dawkins' subsequent travels to South Africa led to collaborations with Zim Ngqawana’s ensemble. This concert will premiere new compositions as well as feature legendary South African drummer Louis Moholo, who is founder of the Dedication Orchestra. The concert opens with a reunion of Foday.

    Afro-Jazz Fans!

I'll be there. I thought I was going to go to Summerdance that night, but that's because I hadn't marked down the date of this event. Will have to strategize how to bring a good sandwich straight from work, or maybe I'll cheat...

If anyone is awake from 5-7:30 AM on Thursday mornings and likes this kind of music, tune into my jazz program at WNUR, 89.3 FM or www.wnur.org. It's Jazz, taken broadly, but definitely frequently features these guys and their colleagues.

(Anyone going to see Ernest Dawkins' Louis Jordan project at Summerdance this Saturday?)

    HI,

Sound's delightful. Unfortunately I will be in Springfield. I hope people take lots of pictures.

    Regards,

Germuska, and anyone else coming straight from work...

Don't worry about the sandwiches...you can always bring something else, like a bottle of wine, or a sweet. Or "cheat" and pick one up on the way.

I hope a lot of new posters, lurkers and others that haven't yet attended an event will come!

I'm here at WNUR playing the heck out of Louis Moholo and his compatriots from the Blue Notes and looking forward to tonight's concert... Any specific meeting plans?

Joe, due to the low turnout (read: no one except people who weren't already going; read: you), we've decided to do it another night when we can gather a small group.

But obviously there is no reason why folks still can't meet up, if people decide to go last minute.
