    Guess the restaurant entry #14

    From the archives....

Apologies for the fact that half of the population is unlikely to have had the chance to see this view before but..

    Skylark is the correct answer.

A finer, more substantial urinal I have not seen in many the year.

Upstairs at the Antheneum Theater on Southport has the coolest urinal...it's like stepping into a sarcophagus...

That's funny. After the Xmas Eve bash at Lao Sze Chuan, I was bragging about the fine urinals that the Skylark possess over drinks with TonyC. I really didn't think that it was out of line to encourage him to go check them out. But in front of the ladies, I thought I just might have crossed the line.

Damn, come to think of it.... I even told Trix to go have a gander! I'm not quite sure if she took any pictures of them. Gotta ask her.

The most impressive urinals I ever recall seeing were at Le Cirio, a lovely fin-de-siecle cafe/brasserie near the Bourse in Brussels. No elbow rests, but they were so tall and deep you had to take care not to walk right in.

Note that this website has photos of the bar itself and, in the lower right, gives props to the gents as well.

The most impressive, sarcophagus-like urinals I can recall were at Northwestern University. I don't remember if they were in University Hall or the neighboring Harris Hall, but they were easily over five feet high and a foot and a half deep, flush (heh) with the floor. Probably of the same vintage as the photos above.

Well, that certainly is an impressive pissoir, my dear A, but, truly, one must travel to The Mutiny, in BuckLoTowgan Square, to see an even grander one, methinks. In fact, this humble tavern and music venue even brags (or used to brag) in its advertisements that it is home to the oldest antique urinal still in use. And, I suppose, when the highlights of your establishment would otherwise be tuneless Karaoke sung by mental patients, watered-down 1/2 pitchers of beer, and music provided by such classy gents as The Fucking Scumbags (yes, a real band I once heard and saw there), the big brass urinal begins to stand out more and more. With the proximity to everyone's un-hip uncle's latest fave spot, Honey 1, though, The Mutiny is worth at least a visit (if only to pee). Incidentally, The Mutiny was the site of my band's first-ever Chicago gig, October of 2001. We passed the hat, someone spit in it, and we were told what a good show we put on and what a good night it was as we were (literally) being pushed out of the back doors by Ed, the owner. A scum-hole, but a lovable one at that.

    That's no urinal, that's the band's sousaphone!

Joel, NU has those in UHall and Tech as well. IIRC there was a remodel of Swift so Im not sure if they still are in place for the DJs.

    LTH,

Speaking of the Skylark, I vaguely remember ReneG mentioning the antique Wheat Shocker whisky bottle that's (usually) slightly out of view behind their liquor licence.

    Skylark's Wheat Shocker.

I just noticed Mister WuShock is holding a tag from a bottle of Jeppson’s Malört: “Are you man enough to drink our two fisted liquor?” I should mention it was Mike G who first pointed out the Wheat Shocker to me at Skylark. I wasn’t familiar with it before. Definitely a cool mascot.

i would be PROUD to be buried in the urinal at the Mutiny.

aside, many park district buildings have impressive masonry as well.
