    Hi,

My name is Mark Wickman. I run a South Australian based, online wine auction at http://www.wickman.net

I have been operating the site since 2003 when we commenced it as a one-off project to raise money for charity by auctioning off donated wine on the internet. It was such a success that we continued with it on a commercial basis, now running a charity section each month as well as the commercial auction. From 50 members in 2003, we now have over 2,500 members from all over the world who bid on wine on a regular basis and the challenge now is trying to find quantities of quality fine wine on a monthly basis that will keep the membership interested :)

I taste wine on a regular basis and post tasting notes as I get the chance to write them up. I usually post the notes to a number of wine or wine related internet forums and I hope this forum may become one of them.
    Cheers

A superbly rich nose of small black fruits and fine chocolate.
A concentrated palate of dark plums, liquorice, cracked pepper and mulberry, filling the mouth with a core of chalky tannins and an ever so long finish.

We had this alongside a 1993 which seemed to have changed ever so slightly. The 1993 was more finely integrated but still very powerful and youthful, with a large liquorice component and a big stiff backbone of fruit tannins. Top marks for consistency.

Always a little pearler on a hot night, this sparkling wine matures fantastically. Personally, I don't like to drink it too cold as the flavours are muted but open up as the wines temperature starts to climb. At the moment the 1996 is starting to lighten up around the rim a bit, the nose is full of jammy cherry and a hint of plum which follows through on the palate with some nice fresh acidity, fruit tanins and good length.

A deep purple color with meaty/herbal aromas leads into a medium weighted palate with very pleasant fruit and drying, nicely integrated tannins, finishing long and dry with plum, liquorice and rasberry lingering for a good amount of time. A very good food wine.
