Came across an epic colony of oysters today. I collected over five pounds. My current situation= busted camera, busted camera phone= solo, undocumented experiences in the woods. But oh man, too many to know what to do with. (I have dehydrated oysters with disappointing results). A giant fry with eggs tomorrow morning for sure.

Back up in Saugatuck for the weekend. Yesterday pulled in 3-4 lbs. of hen of the woods (maitake). My friend Erin brought in another 7 lbs. this morning. Pushing my luck I went back out and came home with a bounty of 15 more lbs. Individual specimens weighing up to 4 lbs. each! A truly epic forage, perhaps the best yet- especially since the firm, yet tender, sweet and earthy flesh of this species is my very favorite of our local edibles. My friend took pics that I will post as soon as I get them.

Sounds incredible, Jefe! I would love to see some pics when and if you get them!
