    International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) Food History Symposium

    All Things Culinary Around the World in 1849 and Their Convergence Upon California
    October 8 – 10, 2009
    Wine and Roses Inn
    Lodi, California


    The Fourth IACP Food History Symposium, "All Things Culinary Around the World in 1849" will recount the culinary history of the mid 19th century around the globe and how these traditions converged on California during the Gold Rush era and influenced the following decades by focusing on different regions of the world in each session. Scheduled at the end of the California grape harvest, the entire area will be redolent of fermentation, promising an intimate and wine-soaked weekend.

    Thursday, October 8

    3:30 p.m. Welcoming Remarks (Ken Albala)

    4:00 – 5:00 p.m. Setting the Food Stage for the Mid 19th Century (Mark McWilliams)

    5:30 p.m. Wine Tasting with Local Winemakers and Food Producers

    6:30 p.m. Dinner - Theme: 1849 Gold Rush California


    Friday, October 9

    (Talks will be ½ hour for each speaker with ½ hour for conversation)

    8:00 a.m. Continental Breakfast

    9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Mexico (Jeff Pilcher) and Russia (Darra Goldstein)

    10:30 – 11:00 a.m. Break

    11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Northern United States (Andrew Smith) and France (Kyri Claflin)

    12:30 – 2:00 p.m. Lunch - Provided by Encarnación’s Kitchen

    2:00 – 3:30 p.m. China (Andy Coe) and Pacific and Hawaii (Roger Haden)

    3:30 – 4:00 p.m. Break

    4:00 – 5:30 p.m. India (Colleen Sen) and Italy (Carol Helstosky)

    6:00 p.m. Wine Tasting and International Hors d'oeuvres

    6:30 p.m. California (Dan Strehl)

    7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Banquet Dinner - Theme: International 1849


    Saturday, October 10

    8:00 a.m. Breakfast and depart


    Symposium Registration

    The registration fee is $450 per person and includes food and local wine-related events that take place during the symposium. Registration is limited to 50 people and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment is required to reserve your space.

    Registration forms must be received by September 1, 2009.

    Yeah -- if I can get about 900 people to buy my book, I'd like to go to this. Otherwise, I'll just have to get a nice bottle of California wine and read back issues of Food History News.
