    I'm planning to attend the Essex Rotary Shad Bake, the premier shad event that celebrates Connecticut's official state fish. The website, linked below, has a number of pictures of the event for those who are curious. Apparently, the Hudson River has seen a decline of shad in recent years, and some of the more prominent shad events have been cancelled, however, due to CT's improving stewardship of the state's rivers, shad are no longer overfished here. The Connecticut and Farmington rivers have growing shad populations. The real threat to shad lovers is the lost art of boning them, practiced by only a very few old-timers.

    So, post on the board if you are interested in attending. I could be persuaded to make a side trip for fried clams! {Edit: this year, they will be offering clams and oysters on the half-shell at the event.}

    51st Annual Essex Rotary Shad Bake
    June 6th, 2009,
    4:30-7:00 PM
    Essex School
    Centerbrook, CT
    $18 adults, $8 children, $20 at the door if tickets remain.

    {Edit:I ordered my ticket online, to be held at the will-call.
    Tickets sell out- but it is unclear whether deadline of "Friday, June1"[sic] listed on website is acutally last Friday, May 29, or tomorrow, Monday June 1. In any case, get there early if you want to walk-in. I'd like to see them set up. Maybe I can YouTube it like Cathy2!]
    Man : I can't understand how a poet like you can eat that stuff.
    T. S. Eliot: Ah, but you're not a poet.
