I wanted to have a get together in honor of dumplings, where everyone brings a dumpling of their ethnicity/choice (eg pierogi, dim sum, empanadas, tortellini, matza balls). We can cook it at my place or they can be cooked before you come over.
I would like to do this on June 13 around 3:30PM at my humble abode.
I would like to cap this meeting to about 12 people.
If I have omitted any important facts, let me know.

    Attendees:
    Cookie Monster (host) :pierogi
    dianeck: apple dumpling
    Pucca :siu mai

While this sounds like lovely and delicious event, I will have to sadly decline as that is the day of my twins Bar Mitzvah...

I'll be there with some of my future mother-in-law's dumplings or wontons... Depends on what I have at the time!

    How many should we bring?

    Hi,

I plan to bring pelmeni. Hopefully they will be my production.

(There is a 5% chance I will be going to a wedding that day, which might cause me to cancel.)

    Regards,

My friends are Cheryl and Sue. They are still trying to decide what to make. Cheryl first said Glumci (sp?) (cabbage rolls), but they aren't dumplings, although they would go well with the dumplings. Is there some sort of dumpling that isn't being represented that we can suggest to her?

    Ms. Ingie

Update: Cheryl will be making Gnocchi and red sauce to accompany.

    Hi,

How about fruit filled vareniki? Their are similar to pierogi, though more of a dessert. They can be filled with sweetened cheese, (sweetened) sour cherries, blueberries and such.

Since dumpling is technically defined as anything wrapped in dough, I will bring a dumpling I love - empanadas.
Dobra - I hope it won't be too much trouble to reheat them in the oven at your place?

Can I please steam my siu mai at your place? I don't think they would travel well if I steamed them ahead of time b/c it's probably almost a 30 min ride for me. How many should we bring? Thanks

Dobra, I will bring chicken gravy to go along with the potato dumplings. I'll probably transport the gravy and dumplings in a crock pot, so we just need to plug it in once I arrive at your place to keep them warm.

I'll bring some heavy duty paper plates. Should we also bring plastic forks, napkins or anything else?

This evening, I made my contribution of Siberian meat dumplings aka Pelmeni:

Thanks and you're right about the delicate pinching. I don't make these very often, so I don't have a speedy rhythm. I also don't want them to look factory made, which my pelmeni form does. Couldn't find the tortilla press last night, either. So those dumpling skins were rolled out individually.

I went through the list to find there are eight people attending. What Sue plans to bring will simply be a surprise. :)

    Regards,

Sue is a business person and tough to nail down. She came up with something, but Cheryl wasn't sure what.

This is going to wreck havoc on my diet, but what the heck, I'll be good again starting on Monday. :)

Update: Sue will not be attending. She was given some free concert tickets.

Many thanks to the very gracious Cookie Monster for making me (and the other newcomers) feel so welcome at my first LTH event. With good food, good conversation, and plenty of helpful cooking tips, a good time was had by all.

The dumpling offerings were many. Cookie Monster provided two varieties of pierogi, with sides of sour cream and sauteed onions, and an array of finishing salts. The group's favorite seemed to be truffle salt. My favorite pierogi was filled with potato, ricotta and farmers cheese. The dough was remarkably delicate and thin. Cathy2 also welcomed us. Her pelmeni, filled with ground beef and pork mixture, with a hint of salt, were as lovely in person as they appear in the photo above. Ms. Ingie brought spaetzle. I'm not sure how to describe spaetzle, but they are little squiggles of dough seasoned with a touch of nutmeg (I think). Favored accompaniments were gravy, sour cream or Cookie Monster's sauteed onions. Ms. Ingie also brought along her spaetzle making hardware, and we had a lively discussion of the various alternate ways for making spaetzle. Cheryl's gnocchi were tender and delicate, like little pillows of dough, accompanied by her home-made sauce, and she generously shared her tips for short-cuts in the time consuming process of shaping the gnocchi. My offering was potato dumplings with chicken gravy, as promised in my earlier post.

Just when we thought we could not possibly eat another bite, Cookie Monster showered us with an array of Parisien macarons.

There was of course way too much food, so everyone went home with plenty of leftovers. But even that was not enough of a good thing, so Ms. Ingie, Cheryl and I stopped at Cookie Monster's Delightful Pastries on the way home to pick up a few more treats.

Last but not least, to answer Dave's question, yes Lipitor was a good idea!
