Living the Green Life for the Chicago Urbanite

Live the Green Life! Greenheart presents a FREE Chicago celebration of Earth Month. Roll up your sleeves and clean up Ohio Street Beach with the Alliance for the Great Lakes. Then come to the Greenheart Shop for a workshop series on living the green life as a Chicago urbanite. Cap off the day with music, theater, and drinks for all ages at Avila.
Don’t own a home and not able to install solar panels on your apartment building? No problem, learn what you can do to increase energy efficiency on the cheap in your apartment. Don’t have a yard or access to a garden? Learn how you can still eat and cook fresh local foods. Trying to keep your medical expenses down? Learn preventative natural health tips to increase your body’s immunity and overall health.
The day will culminate in a conscious dance party around the corner at Avila club featuring DJ C-Dub spinning Greenheart music from the island of Ibiza and other socially progressive beats. The party also features a theatrical spectacular combining video, live performance, and music in celebration of Earth month.
10 am - noon: Get dirty while keeping Chicago clean at Ohio Street Beach. Meet at Ohio
Street Beach for a beach cleanup and ecology analysis (bring gloves). RSVP

All workshops are FREE and open to the public at the Greenheart Shop:
10 - 11 am: Fair trade and organic coffee and tea tasting - Enjoy a fine brew with an
introduction to the day, viewing of the short animated film "The Story of Stuff"
and others.
11 am - noon: Get your greens - Learn how to harness the healing power of veggies, fruits,
and spices with quick 'n easy green smoothies.
12:30 - 1:30 pm: Local and organic food...yum - Have a cooking lesson and learn about local
organic farming, Chicago's seasonal foods and enjoy some lunch-time tasty
local and organic treats.
2 - 3:30 pm: Energy efficiency on the cheap - Urbanite tips on how to: increase energy
efficiency in your apartment or home, water conversation, clean green, grow
an indoor garden, compost your food, the real deal of Chicago recycling and
greening your home with Reiki.
4 - 5:30 pm: Greenheart's guide to Chicago - A categorical guide of top businesses that are
socially and environmentally responsible, and how we can make Chicago a
"Fair Trade City".
Free samples throughout the day of local beer, organic fair trade wine, fair trade chocolate and other goodies.
Party Time @ Avila, 203 W. Superior (one block west of Greenheart)
6 - 9 pm: Listen to DJ C-Db spin Greenheart Music, from the island of Ibiza, and
other socially progressive grooves.
8 pm: Enjoy a special theatrical spectacular, by Director Elizabeth Margoliu, combining
video art, music, and live performance in celebration of Earth Month.
Fair trade wine and local beer will be available at the bar. Under 21 crowd must be accompanied by an adult.
