From time to time I idly wish I could meet all the excellent posters from my neck of the woods, that being the west suburbs. Of course, the easy way to do it is to set up a dinner, and see who comes. In the past, for some reason, I have had more luck getting the city and south suburban folks to come here, than getting the people I have never met to make the short drive to join us. I imagine that is in part because they have not met anyone, and that first event can be somewhat offputting.

So let me try this - o, west suburbanites, who among you would be interested in a get-together to meet and eat with your fellow west suburban posters?

For those who reply in the affirmative, also include any suggestions you might have for places you would like to try and any general scheduling constraints, such as "Thursdays won't work for me."

I will give it a week to gather replies and then propose some dates and locations.

Hopefully, this will be a raucous good time, meeting fascinating fellow LTH'ers and sampling a wide range of delicious foods beyond what you would get to enjoy with your regular dining companions. That is how it has worked for me, anyway.

For some reason, the Village Hut, and Masala Yangu come to mind as a couple of possible locations. Good, interesting, and not too expensive. But I am pretty flexible on location.

I'm in if I can...Mondays are out completely for me as are some Fridays but midweek could work. I vote for Lao Sze Chuan so we can order a whole bunch of different dishes but I'm interested in any place I haven't already visited.

I'd be interested. I'm not a west suburban resident, but I work in OakBrook and would like to finally get to some more of the places on my list in that area. I could do lunch or dinner. I don't really have any good days or bad days of the week.

I'm also interested, but I live downtown and work in Naperville, so mid-week is best. I've been meaning to try Masala Yangu for a while.

cjchaps and i are interested. there are no good days/bad days necessarily, but i would prefer a place that has at least 1 vegetarian option so i don't have an empty plate.

    D,

You know that the B2B and I are always up for a meal. Mondays and Tuesdays don't work, but we are open most others. However, the B2B is severly allergic to tree nuts and some seeds. So, Indian and Masala Yangu might not work for her. I like the sound of LSC. I love me some chicken crack.

I'm in. I don't know either of the originally suggested restaurants but I have no problem eating most anything so if you say it's good, I'll give it a try. Mondays are usually not good.

How about Thursday the 2nd, then? Since we have people coming in from work, maybe 630p at LSC? Then maybe do a follow up dinner at Masala Yangu possibly in September.

Flip, I will speak with them (Masala Yangu that is) about seeds and nuts.

Please confirm who is coming so we can at least get an approximate count. If this date does not work, we can consider alternates.

JeanB & threadkiller, does this mean you are in for August 2?

Just to have it here Lao Sze Chuan is at 1331 Ogden, Downers Grove. And we are planning a dinner at 630pm, Thursday August 2.

I'm in too. Last time at LSC in Chinatown I had the beef maw, pig ear, and some spicy seafood dish. Can't wait to try this one out.

I have never been to an LTH get together. How do these type of things work? Do you order family style? Do you just add up the bill +tax +tip and divide by everyone there?

How much should one expect to pay?

    Nicely
    Yes
    Yes
$27 (for some reason, that number seems to come up at a lot of LTH dinners)

    What Steve said.

Though this one might be a little less than $27, but we tend to sit for a while, order in waves, and tip a tad generously, so $27 is probably close.

The pleasure of an LTH dinner comes from meeting a group of interesting folks, and eating a range of foods that includes dishes that most other people would find downright weird (see note above on Beef Maw, etc.)

FYI - I went there for Lunch yesterday. They have put English translations to the specials. :D Also, I have convinced at least one more of the servers not to tell me that "it's too spicy" or "only chinese people eat that."

I might be a couple of minutes late depending on traffic, but I will be there.

I've been on a Chinese food kick this week - LSC takeout last Thursday (lamb with cumin, chengdu dumplings), and Katy's for lunch on Sunday (dan dan w/o spinach, steamed dumplings)

Will let you all know tomorrow!
