"Eating Chinese" is an academic conference jointly sponsored by Brown University Center for Race and Ethnicity and The Culinary Arts Museum at Johnson & Wales University.

Conference sessions are open to the public without charge, but space is limited, and registration is required. Please register by email: [email protected]; and indicate which days (Day 1, Day 2, Day3) you will be in attendance.

I ran across this upcoming conference while googling around for Rhode Island jonnycakes. Seems like Cathy2 is doing the heavy-lifting when it comes to conference postings, so I'm going to pitch in and do my part. Note that this Symposium, (like the recent Chocolate Symposium in DC) is free. The keynote will be delivered by Dr. Darra Goldstein, Editor of Gastronomica. Dr. John Eng-Wong is a professor emeritus of Brown University, whom Cathy and I met at the Longone Center Symposium at the University of Michigan a couple of years ago. A Chinese-American, he has done some research on the food of the builders of the American railways, though I don't know if that will be part of his upcoming talk, "Cross-cultural pigs: Myths, meals, and tastings."
Man : I can't understand how a poet like you can eat that stuff.
    T. S. Eliot: Ah, but you're not a poet.

    Regards,
