I tried to get the chicken fried rice last Friday at the Wilmette Green Bay store, and they were out of it. I am passing on the veggie fries today. They have too much fat in them. I have been buying the Alexia oven red potatoes at Jewel since they are on sale for $3. I like them and they are healthier. Jewel also has the Trident salmon burgers which I love on sale through 4/3 B1G1F, and they also have Cabot cheese B1G1F and Tabatchnick frozen soup B1G1F. I love their chicken noodle and dumpling soup, but all of their soup is good.

I finally got 31 Fandango codes, and so I can get a $5 GC for the movies. As far as free things, I have won 2 packages of gravy, a bottle of aspirin, a yogurt, a bagel, a package of batteries, a box of pasta, a bottle of tea and 2 cans of corn. Apparently lots of people are getting gravy and tomato sauce. I've only gotten about 4 coupons for two free tickets so far this year. Last year I got tons of them.

They have a list of the winners on the shop, play, win site. Apparently somebody from Inverness has won one of the $40,000 vehicles. The game is not as much fun this year since they got rid of the Amazon GC, and you have to have 30 Fandango codes to get a GC. Last year you only needed 10.

    Hope this helps, Nancy

Both Green Giant and Birdseye frozen veggies are $.88 this week at Jewel, and there are 50 cent Monopoly coupons for them, and so you can get them for $.38 if you have the coupons. Jewel also has three pound bags of mandarin oranges on sale for $ 1.99. If they are Halos there is a 50 cent coupon in the 3/25 Chicago Tribune you can use. I think they are on a four day sale starting Saturday.

Watch out on those 99c frozen cheese raviolis. My store had them very conveniently stacked in one of those open freezer bin displays. They were next to (and mixed in with) the "small" meat ravioli, and the spinach and cheese ravioli. I self checked the meat and the spinach and cheese ravs - those were 3.00 per bag. Jewel-ry! The sale definitely states "Cheese Ravioli," but we all now what they did. Jewel-ry!

That's still not as good as the baby back ribs that were 7.99lb one week -buy 2 get one free! But the previous week they were all 1.99 lb. Jewel-ry!

I got my freebie bag of veggi things w/ the secret word, no problem. Except that the checker asked the bagger if he ever tried them when he handed it to him. The bagger said no. The checkout guy then said, "Good. They totally taste like ass."

The $.99 cheese raviolis looked tempting when I saw them in the ad. Are they any good? I am glad you told me that they are mixed in with higher priced ravioli. I would have assume that the spinach and cheese ravioli was the same price.

The customer service manager at the Skokie Blvd store insisted "Veggie" was not the complete phrase and denied me the item. The Jewel Facebook page would beg to differ.

The cashier I encountered today looked at me like I was from Mars when I said "Veggie". Having had similar problems in the past I had already prepared my phone with their announcement and graphic on Twitter in case of a dispute. I showed it to the cashier and she then had to walk all the way to the other end of the store to get the sheet of paper with the bar code thus holding up the entire checkout line. There is no excuse for not having those bar code sheets at every register.

No idea if they are any good. I'm just hoping they are just standard frozen ravioli, more of a conduit for good sauce for a quick weeknight meal. Jr's been all about ravioli in his thermos for lunch at school, too. 99c - definitely worth trying. Freezer is now loaded with 1.99 pork tenderloin and 99c 1lb bags of frozen ravioli. Easy dinners 1 night per week. Roast off a tenderloin in the oven while boiling up some ravs. Easy peasy. Open a salad bag and that's a pretty square meal on the cheap and simple side.

    I tried the tots today.

Though the range of my gustatory experience does not emcompass the descriptor used by the cashier, I will say that the puree of sweet potato, broccoli, and white beans that constitutes the tot did not bring the word "tasty" to mind. And for me the dealbreaker was the mooshiness of the tot interior.

    Hi,

The cashier had already picked up 16 free donuts.

I have several cans of the tomato sauce, one pasta, 3 or 4 packets of mushroom gravy, aspirin (shocked the price was $5.99), several bagels and a 6-pack of iced tea. Too bad I don't shop at the NBA store or Kohls, because I have discounts to both. I hope this year to finally use the shutterfly stuff. Only one go back for double-tickets.

I have a friend who is convinced she will win something if she gets tickets from suburban stores. I think it does not really matter.

I usually shop at the Jewel in Munster,In and the prizes have been few and of little value. but yesterday I shopped at some other south suburban stores. Lo and behold I won a quart of Lucerne 1/2 & 1/2 and overall did much better than Munster. Therefore I will now surrender to superstition and shop in Illinois

The freebie at Jewel today contains maltodextrin, and is geared for those people following a keto diet. I think I will pass. I looked it up on the Kemp site. I buy their lowfat frozen yogurt at Jewel when it is on sale, and it is not bad. I still have not won any tomato sauce. I could always use that. I am hoping I get another 29 Fandango codes so I can get two movie GC, but I am not going to hold my breath. The contest is not as exciting as it was last year when you could get the Amazon GC, snf you only needed 10 codes to get a Fandango GC. I have not gotten very many two free ticket coupons either. I think I have only gotten about four of those so far. Last year I got lots of those including online. This year when I enter in my online codes, I seem to get a lot of this code is not a winner.

I am going to buy the $.99 ravioli today, and if it is any good I will buy some more tomorrow. I am also going to buy two packages of Trident salmon burgers, and some more of the Tabatchnick frozen soup since it is still on sale. I also have a coupon for a free yogurt I will claim today, and will use my 50 cents off coupons for Birdseye to get some cheap frozen corn. Thanks, Nancy

At the grocery store, I advised a fellow shopper on the word of the day freebie. When I told her the magic world was, "Joyfull," she got real excited. It happens to be her favorite word.

I was just happy to pass the good word along.

Hi- I was at the Jewel on Chicago Ave. in Evanston last night. I did not get there until 10:00 om, and they were crazy busy for that late at night. The night crew was also stocking shelves, and so you had to dodge piles of boxes. My receipt said I was supposed to get 18 Monopoly tickets, but they had double ticket day. Does that mean that I should have gotten 36 tickets. The cashier gave me 21 tickets. There was a guy in front of me who was stocking up for his Easter dinner, and had a lot of groceries. They were out of the heavy duty plastic shopping bags that they give out. They hope that you will reuse them again on your next shopping trip. The guy decided he did not want paper bags, and so the cashier had to get some extra heavy plastic bags that she charged him 10 cents a piece for. It probably took her 15-20 minutes to check him out. She apologized to me about it. I was going to use two of my 50 cents off Birds Eye frozen veggies, so I could get two bags of corn for $.38 each, and the coupons did not scan. They were for the smaller size veggies. I decided to get them anyway. Then I had to ask her about the Monopoly game pieces, and she noticed that my register said that I was entitled to 18. She gave me 21. Since it was double ticket day, should I have gotten 36 game pieces?

Out of the 21 I did get. I got six of this is not a winning code, 6 universal code ones, and only one Fandango code. I only got one free item too, which was a bottle of aspirin that I will never use, and some other coupons that I will never use. Thanks, Nancy

I just got around to trying the Simek's Italian meatballs today, and I thought they were better than the average freebie. I think I may occasionally buy some at the regular price and brown them up in the skillet with a little olive oil. I found them tasty with marinara sauce.

This weekend's free stuff on MyMixx: Hershey Gold Bar (white chocolate, pretzels, etc.), BodyArmor sports drink (electrolyte water), and Left Field non-GMO milk.

My freezer is running out of space anyway, and I want to buy some more Tabatchnick frozen soup before it goes off sale on Sunday. Other than milk and maybe some mandarin oranges, and Brownberry bread, which is going to be B1G1F, there really isn't anything else worth buying at Jewel starting Wednesday. This last week they had lots of good stuff on sale.

I have enjoyed the Left Field milk from last week. It has a very nice creamy texture. It seems creamier than the Jewel whole milk I normally buy.

I've never heard of Diet Coke kosher for Passover before. I know that what makes regular Coke non-kosher during Passover is the corn syrup, but Diet Coke doesn't contain corn syrup just artificial sweeteners. The only thing I can think of is maybe the equipment it's made on is cleaned a special way.

Is anybody here having problems with mymixx since the upgrade? I could not change my password until yesterday. Firefox said the dominicks'com website was not programmed correctly, and they said it was not safe to go there. I was finally able to change my password on mymixx yesterday. My gas rewards are still not showing up.

I got an email today about the three free items on mymixx, and I went to their website, and I clipped two of the items to my account with no problem. I passed on the Nissan noodles. Apparently some people are still having problems resetting their password, and some people are only being offered one or two free items. Somebody on mashupmom reported that she was able to clip all three of the items, but when she went to Jewel to get them, the items did not come off like they should have, Has anybody had any luck getting the free items? I don't want to find out when I check out that the items are not coming off. BTW- There is a long wait if you want to call mymixx. Somebody had to wait 30 minutes this afternoon before she was able to talk to a human. Hope this helps, Nancy

My three items did not scan today. I had to have customer service manually do it. After you're done with the cashier, take a close look at your receipt.
Strangely, some other discounts I had on MyMixx (e.g., $1 off digital coupons) did scan.
I went to a different store today, and they did not have the three items in a special area as other stores do. It's a real crap shoot as to how each store handles this.

    Hi,

When I was a kid, my Mom would read the register tape when she got home. If she was cheated 10 cents, she would jump in the car to fetch it.

I read the receipts before I leave the store. This is especially important for MyMixx freebies and Monopoly freebies/discount as well as specially marked down stuff at Aldi.

I am glad to read about the issue with the password. I thought it was related to using an iPad over my desktop.

Thanks- I am going to the Jewel on Green Bay in Wilmette after I return a book to the Wilmette library. I was just worried that the free items would not be taken off, and they would tell me that there was nothing they could do about it. I suspect that the drinkable yogurt at least they will have to pitch if it does not come off, and the person decides they do not want it. I am not getting much other than the two free items and 2 loafs of brownberry bread and maybe some bananas and some Tabatchnick frozen soup. Tomorrow is the last day it is going to be B1G1F, and I have one coupon left that I got from the Hanukkah calendar last fall at Jewel.

BTW- Jewel still has their $2.99 salad bar on Saturdays. Some Jewel stores do a much better job of maintaining it though. The Jewel on Chicago Avenue was doing a better job with their salad bar, and they had large bins of organic romaine and spinach that weren't great, but were passable. When I was in their last Saturday, I noticed that they got rid of the large bins at the end of the salad bar, and replaced them with packages of sushi. Now they just have small bins of the lettuce and spinach mixed in with the other salads, and they looked sad last Saturday. I think the Wilmette Jewel does a better job with their salad bar, and produce department in general. Whole Foods does an even better job with their salad bar and hot bar because they assign one person to look over it all day. Jewel just sets up their salad bar in the morning, and then does not touch it until they are ready to take it down. Hope this helps, Nancy

The woman at CS told me that she still can't log into the website. I was going to get the Promised Land milk, but I found out it was all chocolate milk, and so I passed.

While I was waiting to check out, I saw the cashier scanning some gravy mixes, and sure enough when he was done ringing her up, she handed him at least 6 monopoly coupons for the free gravy mix. I asked the customer if she had ever tried the gravy mix herself, and she said no. She had been giving it away. It sounds like she has won it before. I have only won two packages of gravy mix so far. Tonight I got 8 Monopoly tickets, and the only instant winner was for 2 free Monopoly tickets. I hope I got some Fandango codes. Hope this helps, Nancy

Re checking your receipt, I have to go back to one of the local Jewel stores to get credited more than $10 for an Easter ham that got scanned twice. There was a smaller error on the same receipt; I was charged about $2 for some produce that should have cost 40 cents. When these things happen, I call the store, I talk to a manager who gives me his or her name and says tell them you talked to me, and encourages me to come back and get my money refunded. I usually don't have the energy to go back to a store right away after schlepping my groceries home and putting them away, so I do it sometime in the next few days. Jewel's always been good about correcting these mistakes. I can't remember now whether such things ever happened with Dominick's. I can't remember them happening with any of the other stores around me. I do encourage others to call if there's any issue with the receipt or other problem; my experience is that Jewel management handles these things very well. That said, based on my experience, I should probably pay more attention to watching items as they are scanned so that I can catch these things right away.

I almost always check my receipt at Jewel before I leave the store. I am there to deal with it. If I wait to look at my receipt later, I then have to remember where I put the receipt when it is time for me to go to Jewel again. I have gotten charged twice for the same item before. Usually when this happens I get some high school kid that is cashiering. Those people are often generous with the Monopoly game pieces though. I usually have a general idea how much my groceries are going to cost, and so if I got charged twice for a $10 ham, I would know something was not right. I never spend $200 at Jewel though. If I had a super large order I could maybe see myself not catching it. Yesterday I spent $15, but one of the items was free, and I used two coupons.

Jewel does let you post redeem coupons though for up to a month, but you have to show them the receipt when you post redeem.

Hi- Rachael at Mashupmom just posted that she was finally able to change her password at mymixx, but she noticed that her phone number was blank. When I looked at my mymixx account, I discovered the same thing. When I tried to edit my account and add my phone number, I got an error message, and it gave me a phone number to call if the problem still persists. So that explains why my free item did not come off, but when I checked my email after I got home, I noticed that I got an email from Jewel with a copy of my receipt, and when I checked my receipt before I left the store, I noticed I got 17 gas reward miles, but it is not showing up when I check my gas rewards account. I might call them up tomorrow to see if I can get things straightened out, but I am sure it will take me forever to talk to a human. Somebody at MUM suspects that they are merging the old Just4U Dominick's account and the mymixx account, and so if you never had a Just4U account you are good to go. Hope this helps, Nancy

Hi- I called up Albertson's CS this morning to see if they could help me. Their number is 877-258-2799. I only had to wait for 20 minutes before I was able to talk to a human being. They do not tell you how long the wait will be.

The CS woman added my phone number which was not listed. The had my club card number from I assume my old Dominick's Just4U account instead, and even though it was showing up for me, she asked me for my address. The address was not showing up on her screen, and she asked for my email. I then asked her about my fuel rewards not showing up, and she said that IT was still working on that problem. I was on the phone with her for maybe 10 minutes, and she was nice. I then went to my account again, and she did add my phone number, but my club card number was still there, and for my name instead of Nancy Friday, they had Friday, Nancy. I don't know why they listed it that way, but when I tried to edit it, the info that showed up had my first name listed first and then my last name.

For those people who do not want to sit on hold for 20 minutes, you can also email them at [email protected], and mention your name, phone number, address and email address in your email. All this has just taken me way longer than it should have, and Albertson's has not been very forth coming about what they are doing about this matter, and what you can do. Hopefully I don't have to contact them again, and I suspect that I can redeem my gas rewards even though they are not showing up. Hope this helps, Nancy
