Has anyone been to Vive la Crepe in Evanston? My Parents wanted to go there for dinner this Saurday, but I thought by the name crepe it implies this is a breakfast spot. Anyone have recomendations on what to order when there?

I was there for dinner some time ago with a group of 8. We were singularly unimpressed. Service was slow, food was mediocre, prices were high. I didn't see a breakfast menu, can't confirm or deny.

Le Creperie on Clark near Diversey is a much better place, and I've got reservations about them too.

I mean, in Paris, crepes are cheap, fast street food. These places make you think that they're high-falutin' complex haute cuisine.

Frankly, I'm hankering for the spinach crepes with hollandaise at Walker Bros. pancakes.

I will echo the exact same experience as JoelF. In fact, I had completely wiped this place from my memory until I saw this thread. I would recommend finding another place to have dinner.

It's also important to note that word "crepe" does not necessarily indicate breakfast. There are many savory French crepe preparations (as well as in other cultures). Crepes are eaten for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and my personal favorite, dessert.

    Best,

Although I would not recommend Vive La Crepe, necessarily, I have to echo eatchicago and say that crepes are NOT just for breakfast! Savory crepes are absolutely delicious. if you're ever in Roscoe Village, Brett's (2011 W Roscoe) makes a delicious emmenthaler and asparagus crepe with tomatillo sauce that is to die for.

...that wasn't really your question, but you made me think of that crepe and now I have to put in a plug for it! :P

I have to agree with the previous posters. There's too many other interesting places around Evanston to bother with Vive La Crepe. I had the same experience. Not mediocre, just dull service, dull food.

le Peep has a decent Crepe Benedict, swimming in Hollandaise.
