Cooking Fools, a white tablecloth takeout joint in Bucktown (1916 W. North Ave.) has some tasty popsicles ($2); the watermelon cucumber mint is especially good, though there's also blueberry banana, peaches and cream, etc.

[Incidentally, I'm not generally a huge fan of Cooking Fools, but some of their creations, like these popsicles, are really good!]

Hey - I was just in there Saturday night just before they closed, before I went to the Katie Todd Band CD Release party, and had a Strawberry Soy Ginger popsicle. The soy added a creaminess, the ginger wasn't too strong, and overall, I think the only sweetness came from the berries themselves - perfect on a hot night.

I picked up a couple of these last week - the watermelon cucumber mint was good, but perhaps a little overly sweet. The strawberry basil was really good though, with the taste of basil coming over nicely.

Also picked up a pint of their Mango/Habanero sorbet, which I have been snacking on all week. Quite interesting...at first, the mango is all you can taste, but after a few seconds the habanero really sneaks up on you and gives the sorbet a nice spicy after-taste.

I'd never been to cooking fools before, but I enjoyed these three items.

Got some popsicles yesterday and mentioned this forum. The person at the counter (owner? not sure...) had heard of the mention on LTH and seemed happy about it.. they had a sign outside advertising the popsicles which I had not seen before, guess they are doing a brisk business.

We got a strawberry-cucumber-mint and some sort of banana.. Very good, although the strawberry/c/m was a bit too sweet for me, as someone else mentioned. But the cucumber flavor was very nice. I'll be trying them all this summer, for certain.
