In case anyone is interested, there's a new Loop lunch spot called Hannah's Bretzel on Washington, right next to the Corner Bakery on the corner of Washington & Wells.

Here's a blurb from their website:

Hannah’s Bretzel is Chicago’s first organic carry-out eatery, and one of the most earth-friendly businesses around.

We believe that fresh, organic ingredients make for better, more flavorful food. And we focus on whole grains, because they taste great and they’re good for you.

Swing by and sample our tasty Bretzels and sandwiches, whole grain soups and organic whole grain salads. Or kick back with a cup of organic coffee, espresso, or tea and a delectable chocolate treat.

Get organic. Get whole grain. Get “green.”

I've been there three times now and had the Smoked Turkey & Swiss Gruyere and the Black Forest Ham with Swiss Gruyere (I'm partial to Gruyere) on the Whole Grain bread. I've also had the Organic salad. All three items were quite tasty and made from quality ingredients. You're not going to get stacks of meat in your sandwich, but the flavors are so intense, a few slices definitely suffice (especially the black forest ham).
It's nice to have a heathier option for lunch - that is, if you can refrain from buying one of the organic chocolate bars!

I grabbed a sandwich last week from Hannah's Bretzel and was favorably impressed. I got the French Ham with Camembert on whole grain bread. It was delicious. While the sandwiches cost a little more than other places in the loop area, I believe it is worth the extra cost for the organic ingredients and to support a business that goes the extra mile to use as many organic ingredients as possible. (Of course, in a perfect world, organics would cost the same as pesticide-laden items) I keep meaning to grab a Bretzel on my loop travels, but have not been back yet. Perhaps next week. . .

In addition to sandwiches, soups and salads, Hannah's Bretzel also sells boxes of organic cookies, coffee and tea, and has an impressive array of organic chocolate that appeals to the sugar junkie in me.

wow, i love this place! i've turned on the guys i work with too, so lots of happy customers.

i've had the black forest ham with gruyere, and the turkey as well. but, i subbed the vermont white cheddar on the turkey & it was perfect. i did that one on the pretzel bread, the 1st on the wheat roll. both good, but the pretzel bread is just so different & yummy.

i got a cappuchino yesterday & it was perfect. noticed they had some wrapped pieces of chocolate-covered something in both milk & dark chocolate, wrapped up with a hannah's bretzel sticker. i asked if they were shortbread (two to a pack), but they replied chocolate covered graham crackers (!?!). i had to run out of there before buying any, but i love those & will be trying them out soon!

the owner has said that he is already looking at new spaces, probably with more seating, so that's promising.

i'm so happy something like this opened so close to me (@ wash/frank). i almost went back today, and after my lackluster choice, wish i had stayed with my original plan.

It sounds good, but what's a Bretzel?

I'm already addicted to their Bretzels (which I insist on calling Pretzels) with a schmear of nutella.

The place is a little pricey, but everything I've had there so far has been of high quality. I tried the barley soup the other day and it was quite good. Very hearty, with plenty of barley, carrots and potatoes. I almost felt like I was up in the Alps, taking a break from watching the goats.
