On this and another thread, I've offered my opinion that Cannella's on Grand serves the best chicken vesuvio in the city. I agree that Grotto and Harry Caray's and Rosebud have excellent CV, but I happen to think Cannellas is the best. Today's Tribune has a Cannella's ad offering 25% off the entire dinner bill (doesn't even seem to exclude drinks), Monday - Thursday, until 5/12. The ad doesn't appear in coupon form, so I'm not really sure if you need it, but it does say "Mention coupon when ordering." I just think this presents an unusual opportunity to try what I think is an outstanding CV at a discount, and the restaurant's pretty reasonable to begin with.

Even if you don't want CV, I have praised Canella's in the past for their risotto of sepie, wonderful small and perfectly cooked cuttlefish.

For those who have not experienced cuttlefish, it's well worth trying.

I had the great CV at Cannella's last night, so I can now better explain the discount I described above. The ad copy is NOT required, and it looks to me like the main reason they want you to mention the ad at the beginning of the meal is because of the way they add up the final check. All of the food and liquor is added up at regular prices, tax and an 18% tip is added, then 25% of the entire food AND liquor total is subtracted. Understand, the CV is only $14.95 to begin with, and that includes the fresh, hot pizza bread everyone gets at the beginning of the meal, choice of soup or salad, and the CV. You could theoretically order two CV dinners, drink water, and get out of there for less than $32, tax and tip included. My group of four shared an outstanding bottle of 2000 Barolo, reasonably priced on the menu at $59, and an absolute steal with the discount (this was one of the two most expensive wines on the menu, the other being an Amarone). Most of the wines are less than half the cost of this one.

Cannella's CV is a crisp-skinned, 1/2 disjointed chicken, with about six browned potato wedges, all covered in a generous olive oil and garlic preparation (no peas). As I've mentioned before, I've been seeking out the best CV's in Chicago for many years, and for now, I think this is Numero Uno. It's a taste sensation and a sight to behold. I only wish I was tech savvy enough to have been able to have added a picture to this post. I'd sure like to find out if anyone else out there tries Cannella's CV, and loves it as much as I do.
