Morales Donuts R.I.P.

Not that many will miss them, but for the record, I noticed tonight that Morales Donuts at Fullerton and Pulaski is no more. "For Rent" signs now adorn all the windows and, with their stock removed from the shelves, I noted the building slab has rebounded a full 2 inches above the surrounding grade. I gave Morales several tries over a 2-year period and the only good thing I could say about their heavy, goozy "dough-naughts" was that by comparison to their coffee, the pastries were delightful and less likely to induce acid reflux.

So freakin' true. Why can't the North side of Chicago support a good donut shop?

I don't think the North Side has even had the opportunity to support a good donut shop in years. I can't think of a good one that went out of buisness because no one bought the donuts, there just plain haven't been any good donut shop. Where are the enterprising donuteers?

Yes, it is a bit of a chicken-egg thing, but did not Dat Donut try, without success in Edgewater?

The problem with Dat Donut, in my opinion, is that they had some seriously surly help in that place. No matter how good the donuts, customers will only take so much crap off the counter staff before they quit going.
