I just took lunch at the recently discussed Monet's Deli, on Ohio @ Damen. I was the first one to mention it--and favourably, I should add--but I hadn't been back in months.

Monet, the Palestinian gentleman for whom the shop is named, told me a couple of things which I thought were worth mentioning, here. First, they do not serve the Middle Eastern foodstuffs at the other shop's location, just yet. Second, they will be introducing a curious new falafel sandwich creation, very shortly. This item will include both the breaded eggplant and the fries, pictured above. :!:

My lunch was good. My only quibble was with the fryer oil, which was not likely hot enough. The falafel and the eggplant were both a bit sodden.

It is quite a tight, tidy and tiny operation. The rotisserie and the fryer look like the Popeil-esque "home editions" of such. ;)

    * This assortment was presented to me gratis. We'd been on the subject of the new sandwich and I think Monet wanted to give me a better idea of what he was talking about.

    Erik,

A couple of questions. Does he pronounce his name like the artist? DId he give any indication of when they serve food? Are there only certain days/times of the week?

    Yep, just like the artist.

He chuckled when I asked him about the reportedly random hours. Just as reported, though, no, they are not serving food on weekends, but he was not any more specific than that.

He is a pretty casual guy, stevez. :D

    Spin the wheel.
