Monday the 28th is my birthday, and my boyfriend has requested I find some OTHER sushi restaurant besides Katsu. We're attending a Kodo concert at the CSO downtown, and I suppose he's worried about timing. Is there any place that compares to Katsu that isn't quite so far north? It doesn't have to be downtown per se. Katsu is my be-all-end-all, and since my first trip there I haven't tried any other sushi restaurant. I'm sincerely hoping there is something equally special out there.

    Thanks in advance,
    natalie

I'm not a big sushi fan so I can't speak to quality, but you'll find Oysy at 888 S. Michigan Ave, about a 10 minute walk south from CSO. For its location, it certainly seems to be a good value, too, and the interior is quite pleasant.

I think Oysy would bet a good bet.

A bit further afield, there is the brand new Kizoku Sushi & Lounge. FWIW, Kizoku's Chef Melvin-san--to whom I refer, here--used to work at Oysy.

Just a bit further afield, but well worth it for the sushi and sashimi, is Japonais. You are in expert hands with Chef Jun-san.

And, of course, there is Heat.
