There's a cute little coffeehouse next to the Burt Car Wash (which I hope stays in business even with the Starbucks opening across the street from the Twisted Spoke). I am blanking on the name but there's another Italian restaurant on the southwest corner of Grand and ?? a block or two west of D'Amatos that has a carryout on the side and a full service restaurant.
Are you thinking of
Salerno? -- that must be what you mean. I haven't been there but if I remember correctly, VI has said good things about them.
There's a bar on Hubbard and Racine (admittedly, owned by a friend of mine)... Dante's Inferno... I haven't been there in a while (family life keeps me tethered) but I liked it a lot.
