A few weeks ago I had lunch there because I found it before I found the other
jerk chicken place on Howard.
The sign on the door indicated it was open. I parked the car, fed the meter and walked over to find the door locked though people were visible inside. I knocked on the door anyway and was allowed to come in to eat if I didn't mind their cleaning up around me. The owner didn't give me a menu, he simply asked if I wanted pork or turkey. I chose the pork.
I had brought along something to read. When my meal arrived, I didn't take any pictures because the guy guessed I might be some food critic; though I don't know why. It sort of dimmed my enthusiasm for taking a picture, which not only is something to show later but it also helps to trigger the memory.
The pork was deep fat fried and served in fairly large chunks. There was a coconut-based dipping sauce for the meat as well as my rice in a separate bowl as well as beans in another bowl. I really liked the sauce, which seemed to improve everything it touched. The total tab with a bottle of pop was around $12.
Only after my meal did I finally get a menu to look at. Clearly they were not prepared to serve anyone when I arrived yet it was very kind they didn't turn me away. They simply offered what was readily available.
