Graham's Fine Chocolates & Ice Cream, Wheaton

On a recent geocaching expedition, we found ourselves in downtown Wheaton. This gave us an excuse to check out Graham's Fine Chocolates & Ice Cream, a tiny little shop on Front Street. There are a few chairs outside, but no room to sit inside -- just a candy counter and an ice-cream counter in the back.

Graham's offers a range of luscious-looking chocolates plus terrific ice cream. It was too hot a day to try the truffles, but we loved the creamy ginger-peach ice cream, studded with preserved ginger, and the coconut-almond, loaded with grated coconut.

This place is just down the street from Suzette's. We also spotted an even tinier shop selling popcorn and candy, but it was too crowded to try to enter.

Graham's seems to be a bit of a mini-chain, with stores in Geneva and St. Charles as well. I think Wheaton may be the newest outpost based on a brief web search, but I am not certain about that.

I have tried the Geneva location, but it was a hot day and I was thirsty after refereeing, so I went with an old-fashioned soda - seltzer with flavored syrup. Don't remember the exact flavor, but it was good and also nice to know a place that makes that. The Geneva store is in an old house, almost a mansion, just south of downtown and has a nice porch and chairs on the lawn, too. Graham's is owned by Bob and Beckie Untiedt, the Geneva location at 302 South Third Street was their first shop opened in 1987. They have now purchased a building further south on Third Street at 318 and are renovating it. Their only other shop is the Wheaton location.
