the elusive slice found at Renaldi's

Have been having a hard time since moving to town in finding a place to grab a quick slice-- pre-movie, post concert sort of grab and go meal. I think tacos are more typical here. But last night, I had the pleasure of stumbling upon Renaldi's pizza in Lakeview, where I was not only treated to a New York style triangular slice, but it was actually delicious. I highly highly recommend and am hoping for a few more suggestions for places that do quick non-deep dish slices, that aren't just decent but qualify as great.

If you are ever out in the northern burbs, Marisa's in Northbrook on the corner of Sanders and Dundee has great slices. Some friends who live in that neighborhood who are originally from New York, swear its the closest they have come to New York style pizza. When I am working in that area, that is one of my favorite grab and go meals.

NYCHI, I started eating at Renaldi's twenty years ago, at first motivated by their sign, but later because it was on the route of a pub crawl I made with some regularity. I think it's about the best pizza in that neighborhood, though I now mostly order out. If you do that, ask them to bake your pizza a little more than usual and the crust will be even better.

Okay - I completely understand and appreciate that "a slice" is in a category all by itself. However, when it comes to tasty, others may agree that you can find great pizza at Pizza DOC and really, really good pizza at Pat's.

Pat’s has moved from Sheffield to Lincoln. I haven’t tried the new location so can’t say if the pizza is the same. Any reports?

I'm now excited to try Renaldi's, maybe this weekend -- always looking for that NY slice. And although not NY style, I love the very thin pizzas at Piece in Bucktown. Pizza D.O.C. also makes a great pie. After reading that some people thought Santullo's was a great option, I tried it and thought it was decent, but not great.

Pat’s has moved from Sheffield to Lincoln. I haven’t tried the new location so can’t say if the pizza is the same. Any reports?

How long ago did they relocate? I ordered delivery from them about two weeks ago (same phone number) and it was as good as ever. With that said, I always thought thier pizza tasted far superior when you dined at thier restaurant - but I imagine it's a good sign that thier delivery is consistent.

Okay - to be fair, I'm a native Chicagoan and never quite understood what all the fuss was for a "NY slice" and I've tried quite a few replica's in and around town and have never been impressed...with that said, I do admit that on occasion, I enjoy a slice from Costco. Is that too pittiful for comment, or does anyone else enjoy the ubber cheap, extra large slice from that fabulous discount center?

Thanks for the Renaldi's recommendation. Tried a slice the other day and would agree that it has nice cheese and sauce qualities, very reminiscent of NYC slices, but I felt the dough wasn't right. Not dense/chewy enough.

Still, a good neighborhood option, which I might even favor over Luigi's, which I think gets the dough right, but the sauce and cheese are just adequate.

Not sure (I haven't been to TMLMTBGB in a few years) but given the location I suspect it's more likely to be Ranalli's.
