Having been to numerous poor Thai restaurants in the burbs has made us shy away from Thai food in general. Hence the reason for me driving by daily the generically named Pad Thai restaurant in a strip mall.

On the way home a couple weeks ago, I was thinking that we had not enjoyed Thai and thought, what the heck, might as well try this place so at least I’m sure of its quality.

First order was take out of pad thai and shumai. I love shumai and though not a Thai dish I had asked if this shumai was homemade and the answer was yes.

Got home and tried the shumai, steamed dumplings made of ground chicken and shrimp. Terrific! The pad thai delivered as well.

Ok we both thought, at some time we’ll need to check this place out further. Last night was that time.

So we could not resist getting the shumai to start. Terrific again.

We split Nua Num Tok a sliced beef salad that has lemon juice, cucumber, green and red onion, hot chili, tomato and cilantro. We really enjoyed this, unlike some Thai places we’ve been the beef was 70% of the dish, not 20%.

Judi had the Duck Lychee for her entrée. Boneless roasted duck w/a ginger sauce on top w/some lychees.

I had the Three Tastes Catfish. Pieces of boneless lightly fried catfish w/a spicy sauce consisting of tamarind and fish sauce.

Both entrées were spot on, excellent.

Pad Thai restaurant is a family run affair, the owner Nearon (sp?) was our server. He is originally from Bangkok and has the parents in the kitchen cooking. “We eat what we cook” was his catch phrase.

We are soooooo happy to have a well-executed Thai restaurant near our house in the burbs. I think you’ll enjoy it as well.

just a couple nights ago had the pad thai made with glass noodles, I believe it was called pad woon sen, I gulped it down it was so good.

Planning on going for dinner here on Wed March 30 if anyone else is up for it.
I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.

I've never tried that thai place, every time we get to that end of MtP we end up in the Indian buffet in the same strip mall (carefully avoiding the once resplendant Kampai). Great buffet, available for dinner as well as lunch.

I'll have to consider Pad Thai for a future outing, but I happen to live at the polar opposite end of Mt Prospect (River & Euclid area), and there are Thai places in probably 5 other burbs closer to me than there.
