Excellent, that’s the place!
El Muelle (“The Wharf”), 4253 W 47th Street
El Muelle is, to the best of my knowledge, the only restaurant in Chicago that has
two giant langostinos on its roof (only the eastern one is pictured). El Muelle is one of a rapidly increasing number of Mexican seafood restaurants on the far southwest side. Everyone knows of Las Islas Marias (5401 S Pulaski) of course but within a couple miles there’s also
El Veneno (not to mention Shark, the Peruvian seafood place; scroll down in thread for mention of El V),
Hacienda del Sol,
Las Brisas, Viña del Mar (5087 S Archer), and Luis Mariscos (4247 W 47th). I’m sure there are many more.
Even if you don’t like fish, the several blocks of 47th Street just west of Pulaski have some other worthwhile stops: Illinois Bar & Grill (4135 W), a comfortable neighborhood bar serving huge, pretty good burgers and John’s Deli (4145 W), an old Polish butcher who stuffs some nice sausages and makes his own pickles.
