FWIW, we ate at the Charcoal Oven on Saturday night based on the information we found here. We went with 5 other couples and had a wonderful time. We were waited on personally by Phil, Maria and Sonja (who told us that she made the salad dressings as well as all the pies that afternoon). There was a special menu featuring Shrimp Dijon, Skate Wing, Trout and Salmon along with a retro drink menu - we spent a long time discussing what went into the various drinks- like the side car, smith and kerrns (sp) and the stinger. Phil was gracious, telling us what not to order as well as what was freshest and the best. At one point in the evening, a patron got up and gave a wonderful toast to Phil and Maria and Phil spoke and thanked us all for patronizing his restaurant. He was funny, and someone suggested that he write a book about his adventures in the 60 years he has been in business.
My husband and I had eaten there before, but the rest of our group hadn't-despite quite a few of them growing up in the neighborhood. They all said they would be back.
What a treasure, and we felt honored to be there on their anniversary.
